In his final comments during
the Northeast Championship
Holstein Show, judge Robert Fitz
simmons of East Montpelier, Vt,
said, “I knew there were good
cows in northeastern Pcnnsylvani
a. I knew I was going to have a
tough job ahead of me judging
them. I like to see a sharp dairy
cow, with a good udder. I wasn’t
disappointed.”
While L & J Holsteins of Wells
boro, Ty-Ly-View Farm of Roar
ing Branch, and Esbem Farms of
Mansfield consistently presented
top cows in each of the -classes
entered, and indeed, walked away
with the grand champion, reserve
grand champion and junior grand
champion awards respectively,
Gor-Wood-D Holsteins presented
stiff competition with his 20
entries and was named premier
exhibitor and premier breeder dur
ing the event which took place
Tuesday, August 24 at the Tioga
County Fairgrounds.

Of the senior grand champion,
C Penlow Irma Jethro, a senior
3-year-old owned by Paul Moyer

through the udder. The cow also
took senior champion and first in
the senior 3-year-old class.
Of the senior reserve grand
champion and senior reserve
champion, L & J Thor Frank,
another senior 3-year-old owned
by Ida Jane Plance of L & J Hols

she’s been milking a long time,
she tracks out nicely.”
When the judge also announced
L & J Thor Frank’s owner the
winner of the best bred and owned
by exhibitor award, Ida produced
a grin and said, “This is what I
came for. This is what makes it all
worth while.”

Courtney of Esbem Farms led
grand champion winner Esßem
Blackstar Emy Lou of which the
