It was a beautiful day as 22 top quality steers were exhibited in front of judge Bill Holloway. Judge Holloway commended the 4-H members on the extremely good job that they did in raising top quality 4-H steers, steers that would be acceptable to both the packer and the consumer. The champion steer chosen by * . '' OHM* Dennis Byrne of Herr Foods Inc., Nottingham, purchased the 1,165-pound reserve champion steer from Phil McAllis ter for $1.35-pound. Dennis’s son Adam is also pictured. Judge Holloway was a 1,175-pound Angus/Gelbvieh cross steer bred by Sonny Hicks of Unionville and shown by Sara Howe of Downingtown. The steer was purchased that afternoon by Hoss’s Steak House in Lionville for a recordbreaking $2-pound. Boss’s was also the volume buyer of the day purchasing four steers. Boss’s also purchased the 4-B club steer that was fed by the McAllister family of Spring City for $1,568 and he then donated the steer back to the club to resell it again fra* the center. The 980-pound steer was then purchased by Donald Cairns of Wallingford for $1,176. Matt McAllister of Spring City donated $115.65 from the sale of his steer, making the grand total raised for the Center $2859.65. Thrifty Pal let Company of West Chester, owned by Bill Fairbaim, donated the $3OO to cover the purchase price of the steer. Phil McAllister of Spring City exhibited the reserve grand champion market steer, which weighed 1,165 pounds and was purchased by Herr Foods, Inc. for $1.35-pound. The steer was then donated to the House of His Crea tion in Sadsburyville. Both Herr Foods and Herr Angus Farms have been big sup porters of the Chester County 4-H Program in years past They also purchased all of the resale steers, which helps the overall sale tremendously. Keystone Farm Credit, Avondale purchased Matt McAllister’s heavyweight steer, wliich weighed 1.28 S pound, for $.99-pound, and Matt then donated SIIS.6S to the 4-H Center Fund. A new dimension to this year’s sale was the sale of the 4-H Beef Club steer named Romano. He was purchased by the Beef Club members from the Devereux Foundation and then was fed by the McAllister Family at their expense in order to raise money for the new 4-H Center that will be built in Chester County along Route 322 in West Brandy wine Township. Hoss’s purchased the 4-H steer for $1,568 and then donated the steer back to the club to resell it again for the center. Champion senior showman honors went to Jen nifer Dunleavy, Glenmoorc with reserve honors going to Matt McAllister of Spring City. Champion junior showman was Kasey McAllister of Spring City and reserve champion was Jon Howe of Dow ningtown. The champion Angus heifer was exhi bited by Jason Marsch of Pottstown and the reserve champion to Jennifer Dunleavy of Glenmoore.
