For Jill Hoffines, it was her first Elizabethtown Fair beef championship. For brother Peter, it capped four years in a row of championships. The. brother-sister team from Marietta, with parents Bob and Linda standing by, capped a mark et steer championship drive Wed nesday evening during an improved and larger beef show. Peter was awarded grand champion with his 1,285-pound Maine Anjou/Angus/Simmental cross named Tyrone. The reserve shown by Jill is a 1,255-pound Maine Anjou/Angus named Carrot. Jill, 13, is in the eighth grade at Donegal, and this is her first year of showing at the fair. The recent Mifflin County Holstein Association’s Summer Classic Sale held at the Youth Park in Reedsville brought an average price of $1,762 on 39 lots. The sale was held Thursday, August 19, the last day of Penn State University’s Ag Progress Days three-day event, which brings traffic along Rt. 322 within easy view of the Reedsville Youth Park. Some of those visitors stopped by the sale, but there were also buyers from New York State, in addition to the local supporters.
