LAURELTON (Union Co.)
FFA members from Central Pen
nsylvania recently met for the
38th Annual Central District
Dairy Show. The two-day event
was held on the Union County
West End Fairgrounds in
Laurelton.
This year’s Holstein grand
champion was owned by Christo
pher W. Shultz of the Danville
FFA chapter. The owner/bred
senior 2-year-old was sired by
Stardell Valiant Winken. The
reserve champion Holstein was
owned by Douglas S. Boop of
Millmont. The 4-year-old dry cow
was sired by Latuch Glendell
Buford. Doug is a member of the
Mifflinburg FFA Chapter.
The Holstein junior champion
was owned by Mark Hough of
Rebersburg. The senior yearling
was sired by Elm-Park
Incredibull-Bed. Mark is a mem
ber of the Penns Valley FFA
Chapter.
The reserve junior champion of
the Holstein show was owned by
Jamie R. Shultz of the Danville
FFA Chapter. The Northumber
land County senior calf was sired
by Carnation Counselor-ET.
In Holstein county group com
petition, type judge Dale Olver,
Penn State Dairy Extension,
placed the Juniata County group
first, followed by Union County
second and Northumberland
County third.
The Milking Shorthorn Show
contained four animals which
were all owned by Mary Anne
Rearick of Millheim. The Penns
Valley FFA member’s 4-year-old
was selected as the grand champ
ion and was also the best owner
bred animal of the show.
A 6-year-old Jersey owned by
Lynne Rearick of Millheim was
awarded the grand champion rib
bon of the Jersey Show. The
Penns Valley FFA member’s cow
was sired by Four Springs Hegh C
E T. The reserve champion Jersey
was owned by Douglas Boop of
Millmont. The Mifflinburg FFA
member’s Junior 2-year-old was
an owner/bred animal sired by
Valleystream J I S Juno.
In the Junior Jersey Show, two
junior yearlings were selected as

Dugan of Watsontown. The top
county group was from Centre
County.
The Guernsey Show junior
champion and grand champion
was owned by Scott Womer of
Middleburg. The senior calf was
sired by Wampanog Fayette Smo
key. The reserve junior and
reserve champion of the show was
a senior yearling owned by Floyd
Buffington of Millersburg.
Floyd Buffington owned and
bred all the animals in the Ayr
shire show. The Dauphin County
FFA member’s senior 2-year-old
was awarded the champion rib
bon. This junior calf was the
reserve champion of the show.
Jeff Pirrung served as the show
manship judge for the show. He is
a Penn State senior on the PSU
Dairy Judging Team. Also assist
ing in the show were Grant Camp
bell, of the Pennsylvania FFA
Association and the SUN Area
Dairy Princess.
