It was a long 4-H cow competi tion day at the Morrison Cove Dairy Show held on Wednesday, August 4. ' Judges Alan Hostetler of Ann ville and Kirby Horst of New manstown gave the “Best Owned and Bred.” Holstein award to Mat thew Black who won the supreme champion award at Tuesday’s FFA Show. Black said it was the first time he had ever achieved honors this high. The colored breed champion, an Ayrshire, was owned by Rachel McCutcheon. Lory Baker had the supreme champion, a three-year-old Hol stein. Reserve grand champion Hol stein was a four-year-old owned by John David Kelly. Erin Shaw won the junior champion award and Ashley Black, reserve junior. Holstein Other top three Holstein awards were given as follows: Junior Calvea: Angela Frederick, Rachel Fox and Ernie Bert, Jr. Intermediate Calvae; Ashley Black, Joshua Smith, and Rebecca Kelly. Senior Calves: Erin Shaw, John David Kelly, and Enc Frederick. Summer Ysartlnga: John David Kelly and Doreen Delp. Junior Ysartlnga: Jennifer Frederick, Heather Hoover, and Roger Stock. Intermediate Yearlings: Renee Baker, Audrey Fox, and Mchelle Sdlenberger. Senior Yearlings: Angela Frederick, Joe Sun. and Chris Sdlenberger. Junior Two-Year-Olde: Wesley Metzker. Blair County Holstein grand champion was owned by John D. Kelly. Guernsey Grand champion Guernsey, a dry aged cow, was owned by Aar on Gable. His sister. Amber, had reserve grand, a three-year-old. The Clarks are from Snider’s Golden Guernsey Farm in New P&N Packing, in Terrytown, for $2.20 per pound. The 278-pound reserve grand champion was shown by Lillian Lunde and sold to Hatfield Quality Meats Inc. for $2.10 per pound. Geoff Powell the Troy Fair. 4-H Dairy Show Held At Martinsburg Enterprise. Melissa Morrow showed the “Best Owned and Bred,” a senior yearling named Hillside Smokey Octavia. Melissa also had the best Guernsey junior herd. Dry Cows: Aaron Gable, Melissa Morrow, who was also Blair County Guernsey Champion. The Jersey Best Owned and Bred was a two-year-old owned by Leslie Bailey, Les-Lee Brass Top Pammy Tootsie. Kendy Gable, of New Enter prise showed the grand champion Jersey and Lee Bailey, the reserve grand. Lee Bailey showed the inter mediate calf for the junior cham pion and Leslie Bailey picked up the reserve junior champion award. The 128-pound grand champion market lamb was shown by Kendra Moore and sold to Farm Credit for $4.10 per pound. The reserve grand champion lamb, shown by Geoff Powell, weighed 129 pounds and was bought by Troy Veterinarian Hospital for $2 per pound. There was also some additional support coming from buyers who stretched the use of their purchases by offering them up'again on the auction block with proceeds targeted for helping the county 4-H livestock program youth, either through scholarships or other means. Wayne Tuscarora and Rolling Acres Farm, of Wysox, each pur chased a hog and resold the animal with all re-sale money going to the county 4-H. During the lamb sale, there were two lambs purchased by Wayne Tuscarora, and one bought by Pel ton Trucking which were resold to support 4-H. A number of buyers provided considerable support in addition to purchasing champions.
