EVERETT NEWSWANGER Managing Editor HARRISBURG (Dauphin Co.)—A record number of entries gave additional recognition to the 31st National Dairy Goat Show held recently in the Farm Show complex. A total of 2.076 goats passed through the show ring col lecting ..nearly $17,000 in prizes plus awards. Show Manager Danny Harter, Bellefonte, said the old record was set in California and not many peo ple believed Pennsylvania could attract this many entries. But 444 exhibitors from 36 states showed 391 Alpines, 317 LaManchas, 490 Nubians; 196 Oberhasli, 237 Saanens, 273 Toggenburgs, and ISO Recorded Grades. In the Oberhasli show. Cherry Pie recorded her fifth national championship for Karyl Dorenen, Finlayson, MN. First-time national show Alpine exhibitor Leslie Sidwell of Earley sville. VA was awarded the grand championship for her 7-year-old Imn Rod Rev Sutra. In the Nubian aged milker class 45 animals were shown. Sacld from Chautauqua Farm, Overland Park, KS, won the class and went on to be named the grand champion. John, Paulette and Beth Brown of Brazil, IN, had the grand champ ion LaMancha with Udder Way Coco Chanel, a four-year-old. In the Recorded Grade show, A Jug’s Tavem/Rock Point, Athens, GA, had the grand champion with Virgils Barbie Doll. This was the second year for this division. In the Saanen show, Iron Tooth Wisper Yule, was grand champion for William Poole of Ontario, NY. In the Toggenburg show. Sun Kissed Madame Razz owned by Eleanor Rider of Red Hook, NY was named,grand champion. The Mason-Dixon Historical Society, Inc., presents the 31st Steam and Gas Round-Up at the Carroll County Farm Museum on Septem ber 10-12 from 10 a.m. until dusk. Free admission and free parking are offered. The special featured equipment for the 1993 show will be the Oliver Tractor along with its pre decessor, the Hart Parr. Chances will be sold on a 1953 model 66 Oliver Tractor that will be raffled off on October 4. All types of antique farm machinery will be on display and in running condition, including an antique car and truck display on Saturday and Sunday.
