i- cTa/im Lancaster The Lancaster County Society of Farm Women No. 1 met at the Akron Park for an annual picnic. Members brought a covered dish for the meal and the social com mittee provided a meat tray, rolls, and drinks. After the meal, Ann Landis introduced Ben Kreider, who entertained with some poetry and several musical selections on his guitar.' Harriet Fasnacht called the roll and members responded by contri buting an amount of money equal to their age. Nineteen members and twelve guests attended. Sara Weber led devotions and shared several poems pertaining to gardens and recited the 100th psalm, with the Lord’s Prayer con cluding devotions. The Country picnic will be held on August 3 at Hoffmans Park. 3. The next meet ing of Society No. 1 will be held on August 7 in the home of Marth a Jane Brubaker. Members were reminded to bring items and materials to make cancer pads. 4. For the September meeting mem bos will be taking a bus tour of Lancaster County. S. Lancaster County Farm Women’s Day will be celebrated on October 14th at the Dutch Apple to see' “The Phantom.” For this meeting each member contributed a one-pound wrapped package for an auctibn. Follow ing the refreshments the scripture was read by Anna Mary who chose the 6Sth Psalm and had a reading "Hugs”, then all joined in praying the Lord’s Paryer and salute to the flag. For the entertainment, Sandy Huber gave some very interesting Berks Executive Board Berks County Society of Farm Women executive board meeting was held on June 28 at the Agri culture Center with 14 members and 1 guest present Pres. Fan Phillipy read Psalms 118:24 and also read a short story entitled “The Laugh” followed by The Lord’s Prayer and flag salute. “Do you have special plans for a sum mer vacation,” was the roll call question answered by the mem bers present. Plans are being completed for the farm women’s participation at Scenic river days July 29, 30, 31 and Aug. 1. Special hand-out favors were ordered with The Get tel Press of Rehrersbutg. Berks Society 3 Members and families of Group 3 of the Berks County Society of Farm Women recently toured the Edwards-Freeman peanut butter factory in Conshohockon. Follow ing the tour, the group picnicked and visited the Elmwood Park Zoo in Norristown. The July meeting will be a fam- NEW! In August, the covered-dish picnic will be held at the Kirk wood Park at 6:30 p.m. Secretary Marie Gettel reported on the spring rally trip to Hager stown, Maryland, thanking every one for helping to fill our bus from Berks Co. Group #2 informed the execu tive board of the death of Mary Weber on May 25. Dorothy Strieker, Ist state vice president, reported state board meeting will be September 16. A motion was made to give a monetary gift to enable a teacher to attend an agricultural workshop at Penn State. Guest speakers were the Berks Co. Dairy Princess, Jennifer Grimes, and the alternate Dairy Princess, Karen Davis. The farm women will save refreshments at the Youse family bam rebuilding. The family picnic will be August 8, at the Oley Legion Grove. Ruth Herbein is in the Leader Home in Laureldale. On July 20, a youth program will be in the home of Joyce Mast, R.D.#l, Oley. Berks Society 4 Marguerite Rush was honored on her 80th birthday by Berks County Society of Farm Women Group 4 when they met at her Boyertown home. President Mary Fizz presented her with the Farm Women 80th anniversary pin, a plant and birthday cake. Also attending were Dolly Moyer and Jill Houck, her daughter and granddaughter. Students who received the Group’s home economics awards in the Boyertown Area Schools were Senior High Jean Boettiter, Junior High East Alison Moore, and Junior High West Erica Pristash. The next meeting on August 7 will be a picnic at the home of Verna and Charles Taylor in Loy sville, Perry County.
