    WESTMORELAND
Eugene and Louise Hoover and their son and daughteMn-law James and
Dawnna Hoover and grandson Adam Hayes farm 225 acres. Their Dairy of
Distinction is located five miles north of Mt. Pleasant along Rt. 982 In West
moreland County. Their 50 Holstein milk cows are.fed with a paddock pas
turing system that was started five years ago. The cows are left to graze on
one acre lots for from 15 to 24 hours and then moved on to the next lot. After
15 days they come back to the original lot to graze again. The system has
been quite successful for the family. They have a 17,000 lb. rolling herd
average. The farm has been In the family for 30 years.

Wayne and Bonnie Deardouf f and 12 year old son Jason farm 125 acres in
York County. Jason already has several dairy animals after claiming a new
born calf when he was three years-old. They have 30 Registered Holstein
cows that average over 18,000 lbs. of milk. The farm has been in the family
since 1958. A new pipeline milker was Installed In the tie stall barn In 1991.
The Deardouffs take a special interest in the students at Krollstown
Elementry School by providing a tour to the first grade each year.
