ADC Awards NICE Scholarships
SOUTHAMPTON (Bucks Co.)
Atlantic Dairy Cooperative
awarded scholarships to five stu
dents to attend the 1993 National
Institute on Cooperative Educa
tion (NICE), July 26-29 in Cincin
nati, Qhio.
The students, sons or daughters
of Atlantic members, earned the
scholarships by participating in
the Pennsylvania Council of
Cooperative’s 1993 Summer
Institute. The program, held June
27-30 at Shippensburg University,
teaches high school students about
cooperative business in a fun and
educational setting.
Those receiving NICE scholar
ships include;
Brent England, the son of Wil
liam R. and Bertha R. England of
Williamsburg. Brent, 16, is a
junior at Williamsburg High
School, where he is a member of
the National Honor Society, the
Student Council, the school paper,
the Barbell Club and the FFA. He
also participates in basketball and
football and is a student aide. He
received both the Outstanding
Foreign Language and Star Chap
ter Farmer awards. He recently
attended the 1993 Hugh O’Brien
Youth Foundation leadership
program in Pittsburgh.
Brent also is an altar server and
member of the youth group at St
Joseph’s Catholic Church. He is a
volunteer at Garvey Manor, a
retirement home.
At the Summer Institute, Brent
was a member of the news team
and the wake up/good night team.
He was a session chairperson and
a member of MINICO, a coopera
tive operated by the students dur

UNIVERSITY PARK (Centre
Co.) Stu Patton has returned to
Happy Valley for the past five
summers to do what he most
enjoys work!
He is to spend the next several
weeks with faculty and graduate
students in Penn State’s Depart
ment of Dairy and Animal Science
classifying cows with respect to a
polymorphic gene that is asso
ciated with variations in milk
yield and milk composition.

Karen Heilinger, the daughter
of Richard and Josephine Heilin
ger of Newmanstown. Karen, 17,
is a senior at Eastern Lebanon
County High School, where she is
president of her FFA chapter and
secretary of the county FFA orga
nization. She is the Lebanon
County Alternate Dairy Princess
and a member of her 4-H dairy
club.
Karen’s Summer Institute
activities included the chorus, the
wake up/good night team and the
trivia pursuit team. She also was a
member of MINICO.
Jason KraJl, the son of Glen
and Linda Krall of Lebanon.
Jason, 18, is a 1993 graduate of
Cedar Crest High School, where
he was a member of his FFA chap
ter’s parliamentary procedures,
livestock and meat judging teams.
He also participated in intramural
volleyball. He helps with the
Lebanon County Livestock Club’s
petting zoo and worked with a
group to build a community
playground.
At the Summer Institute, Jason
was a member of the stage crew,
the wake up/good morning team
and the trivia pursuit team. -
Scott Nolt, is the son of Allen
and Carol Nolt of Lebanon. Scott,
17, is a senior at Cedar Crest High
School, where he is president of
his FFA chapter. He is active in
the Annville Church of the Bre-
thren youth group, the Junior
Holstein Club and the Lebanon
County 4-H Livestock Club.
