The 45th Annual Key stone Stud Ram and Ewe Sale was held recently at the Penn State Agricultural Arena. The event is sponsored by the Pennsylvania Sheep and Wool Growers. Judges for the show were Kim Kin, Upper Sandusky, Ohio, and Budd Westlake, Marysville, Ohio. The supreme champion ram was a Suffolk early spring ram lamb shown by James Hefner, Lima, Ohio, and sold to Timothy Ruth, Pineville, Pa., for $650. The supreme champion ewe, a Polled Dorset early fall ewe lamb con signed by Riverwood Farms. Powell, Ohio, was sold to Julie and Krista Bell. Caostown, Ohio, for $7OO. The highest selling animal of the sale was the champion Suffolk ewe consigned by James Hefner, Lima, Ohio. She sold for $BOO to Spinning Acres Farm, New Mid dletown, Ohio. The Keystone Sale was host of the 1993 National Finnsheep Sale. The high selling animal of this na tional sale was also the champion ram. This fall ram lamb was con signed by Brian Magee, Dryden, N.Y., and sold to Lonnie Cook, Mascatine, lowa, for $450. The re serve champion ram lamb was a yearling ram consigned by Lonnie and Pattie Cook, Mascatine, lowa, and was purchased by Falling Tree Ranch, Powell, Ohio, for $250. Information about die Pork Quality Assurance (PQA) program will be available to producers after a dinner of pork barbeque on Mon day, August 30 at 12:30 p.m. at the Farm and Home Center. The PQA program was begun in 1989 by the National Pork Produc er Council (NPPQ as a way for U.S. pork producers to address their role in providing a safe, wholesome product to consumers.
