Fencing Topic Of Meeting
WEST CHESTER (Chester
Co.) The Chester County Con
servation District will be holding a
public meeting on Wednesday
evening, July 21, on the various
aspects and advantages of stream
bank fencing.
The meeting will start at 7:30
p.m. at the Honey Brook Grange
Hall south of Honey Brook on Rl
10, at the comer of Mt. Pleasant
Road. This meeting is free and
end is galvaneal. Self-closing
auto-sequencing gates make sure
the cows enter the right stall each
time. The stalls fit under a 9-foot
2-inch ceiling.
Parallel stalls have been shown
to be very efficient as an operator
can handle more stalls than with
other parlor stall layouts. Thus,
cow through put can be increased
per man/hour with resultant im
provement in milk harvested per
man/hour of labor. Fast-exit stalls
usually improve efficiency by half
the total number of stalls per hour
over a single exit gate. The West-
open to all.
Jeffrey Stoltzfus, Lancaster
County Pequea Mill Creek Pro
ject, will be presenting a slide
show and discussing suggestions
and results from farms involved in
stream bank fencing programs.

falia vertical lilt parallel stalls take
advantage of both these efficiency
measures.
With the indexing front end, the
cow’s udder is closer to the opera
tor for easier milker application.
The milker is positioned from be
hind and between the cow’s hind
legs, allowing for even and bal
anced milking. The 27-inch cen
.terline stall distance makes for
less walking, while the quick exit
makes it easy to empty the stalls
for expedient reload. The vertical
lift parallel is an efficient stall for
any parlor operation.

PORT MATILDA
(Centre Co.) The
Pennsylvania Cattle

at a recent board of
directors meeting,
formed a special youth
development fund
which will accept con
tributions to be used for
several different beef
cattle youth projects.
According to Ray
Grimes, president of the
Pennsylvania Cattle
men’s Association,
(PCA), “PCA has
gradually increased
support of several dif
ferent youth projects in
volving beef cattle the
'st fr bi*'
pest few years, but we
want to do more. We re
ceive many requests for
support of regional and
state 4-H and FFA club
projects dealing with
beef cattle, and have
initiated a special scho
larship fund for out
standing youth who are
also involved in beef in
dustry activities.”
The PCA Cattle
men’s Queen Program
is also being revitalized
and needs additional
support. The Cattle
men’s Queen program
involves relaying infor

The directors of PCA
hope that their new ex
