It was the largest group ever according to 4-H extension agent Zoann Parker who credits the Toastmaster’s work with 4-H members for the increase in entries. Three senior division members who earned certificates with gold seals, the highest award, include Heather Oberholtzer from Saddle Cinches 4-H Club and Northwest ern Dairy 4-H Club; Marilyn Hol loway, Solanco Community Club; and Tanya Dawson, Solanco Com munity Club. The 15-year-old is the daughter of Clair and Lavem Oberholtzer of Elizabethtown. She is in 10th grade at Elizabethtown High School, where she participates in the FFA program. TTiis is her fourth year in 4-H and the second year she parti cipated in the county Presentation Day. Another top winner Marilyn Holloway, who is also the out standing 4-H’er, gave a humorous speech on “Marilyn’s Survival Tips for High School. “I like to talk and I like to write,” said the 18-year-old, who gra duated from high school and is off to Hood College this fall to major in communications. She spoke on “Failure, the Key to Suc cess.” She believes that failure often brings greater success and drew from her experiences in sup porting this thesis. The 16-year-old daughter of Wayne and Mae Dawson is a junior at Solanco High School. She plans to attend the University of North Carolina. Because she has a previ ous commitment to attend a leader ship conference, Tanya will not be able to attend regional competition.
