grains and wheat in the
1993 acreage reduction
programs, according to
Richard Troutman.
The 1993 farm pro
gram participants con
tracted to reduce their
acreage bases by 10
percent for com, 5 per
cent for grain sorghum,
and zero percent for
wheat, oats, and barley.
As a result of these
acreage reduction re
quirements, 1,255.7
acres will be designated
as acreage conservation
reserve (ACR). “Also,
1,024.9 acres are in
tended to be idled under
the 0/92 program provi
sions,” Troutman said.
Under the 1993 pro
grams, fanners have the
option of planting per
mitted crops, other than
the program crop, on up
to 25 percent of the crop
acreage base. Accord
ing to Troutman, Berks
County producers in
tend to plant 364.7
“flex” acres to soybeans
and 364.1 acres to other
crops.
Participating farmers
will be eligible for price
support loans and defi
ciency payments.
Nationally, farmers
enrolled 175.6 million
acres of program crops
and intend to idle 19.9
million acres under the
1993 acreage reduction
