Cumberland Crowns Myers As Dairy Princess
ability, and the way they delivered
their presentations.
In her winning presentation
Myers came on stage with a small
doll named Clover the Cow and
she herself was dressed as a
veterinarian.
Clover, said Myers, had run
into an electric fence and Myers as
the veterinarian had to check her
for injuries.
As she checked out Clover,
Myers discussed the products that
come from milk and the various
health benefits that come from
them.
In her presentation. Deitch
came on the stage dressed as an
old-time newsboy.
She shouted “Extra! Extra!”
and then talked about the big news
of the day, which was the value of
milk and especially its nutritional
benefits.
After winning the contest,
Myers received the crown as dairy
princess from the 1992 princess,
Heidi Negley.
Myers is well-suited to be dairy
princess because her family runs a
dairy farm and she has been very
involved in 4-H activities.
Her family owns a 100-acre
farm and rents another 125 acres.
The Myers family milks 40 cows
at present and is raising 25 heifers.
In addition to working on the
family farm, Myers is a 4-H sew
ing group leader.
Myers is a 1993 Boiling
Springs High School graduate.
This fall she will attend the York
campus of Penn State University
where she will study in the field of
agricultural science. .
She said she hopes to one day
be a county agent.
Dairy, livcttock, and poultry pro
ducers are a significant part of Pen
nsylvania agriculture. While several
farm shows are held throughout the
Commonwealth, few concentrate on
the needs and issues of animal hous
ing. the demonstrations, speakers,
and exhibits at the Animal Housing
Expo will focus on proven, state-of
the-art ventilation, feeding, water
ing. manure handling, -and housing
systems.
■ Dairy, livestock and poultry produc
ers may spend as little as f few ■
hundred dotes for renovations or
up to several hundred thousand dol
lars for new facilities to provide
adequate housing for their animats.
At the Animal Housing Expo, these
producers will have an opportunity
to investigate available options, talk
with industry experts, and select the
system and services that best meet
their needs.
