Stephanie Singo, 16, was chosen as the new Somerset County Dairy Princess on Saturday, June 19. She is the daughter of Robert and Brenda Singo, who own and oper ate Singo Feed and Sons of Some rset She steps into the position held by outgoing dairy princess, Melissa Spory of Boswell, who placed the crown on her head. She is a senior at the Rockwood Area High School and active in FFA, being president of the local chapter and vice-president of the county organization. She’s a member of the high school band, chorus, and cheerleading squad. Her original skit was based on a Wizard of Oz theme, which took about one month of preparations, she said. Usually, dairy princess contes tants fear the questions more than any portion of their competition. For Princess Stephanie, the worst part was waiting for the judges to reach their decision. “After it was over, and we were waiting for the results,” she said, “that was the worst part.” Ricki Johnson, 16, Somerset, daughter of Richard and Donna Johnson was named alternate dairy princess. She, too is a junior at the Rockwood Area High School. Angelina Poligardo, 17, was named Miss Congeniality. Her parents are Dominic and Teresa Poligardo, Meyersdalc. Corby Svonavec, 16, the daughter of Richard and Debbie Svonavec, from Somerset also competed in the contest. Erica Johnson is the 1993 Dairy Maid and will represent the new county dairy support program, which works in conjunction with the dairy princess contest. Her parents are Brad and Cindy Walk er of Berlin. Somerset’s very first dairy prin cess from 1964, Jane Wallace was introduced to the audience, and the 1972 princess, Jeanne Neman ic performed a homorous skit. The 15 Little Maids are Jana Seifert, Sharayah Scheffel, Laura Stutzman, Joy Tressler, Amy Boc sy, Greta Moyer, Came Miller, Wendy Miller, Jenny Miller, Shannon McWilliams, Nicole Bamick, Cassandra Hay, Rebekah ‘ \ Fox, Ashley Coddington and Jeri ka Yoder. Their escorts were Joshua Pope, David Bittner, Kevin Bittner, Joshua Will, Justin Kaufman, Jarred Fox, and Joel Yoder. The Pennsylvania and Lancas ter County Poultry Association seek contestants for the annual Poultry Queen Pageant scheduled for August 6 at the Farm and Home , Center. Applicants must have a know ledge or sincere interest in the poultry industry, have finished their junior year in high school and be unmarried and under the age of 24. Contestants must be willing to participate in parades, banquets, and school promotions.
