Conservation public speaking
contest winners were David Mah
ler, first, Somerset County AVTS;
Stephanie Singo, second, Rock
wood and Jason Baughman, third,
Berlin-Brothersvalley. Marty
Stutzman, Bryan Sarver, and
Chris Beach earned fourth, fifth,
and sixth places.

Marilee Appel, Rick Keller and
Lonnie Coughenour.

Speaking Contest were Melissa
Vought, Meyersdale, first; Mike
Lepley, second, Meyersdale; and

were Michael Griffith and Missy
Place, who tied for fourth place.
The 1993 skills judging contest
results in interview category were
Eric Landis, Brothersvalley. first;
Stephanie Singo, Rockwood and
Mike Lepley, Meyersdale tied in
second; Jason Tipton, Meyers
dale, third; and Marilee Appel,
fourth.
In Forestry, Richard Collins, Somerset County AVTS,
was first All winners were from Somerset County AVTS:
Joe Swank, second; Ron Most, third; and Dave Creamer,
Rodney Hoyman, and Rick Keller in fourth, fifth, and
sixth places, respectively.
Livestock judging saw Heath Engle, Meyersdale, tak
ing first place; Joe Tipton, Meyersdale, second; and Josh
Glcssner Somer
set, third. Matt Poor, Chad Hyatt, and Adam Gauntz came
in fourth, fifth, and sixth, respectively.
Team winners in judging small gas engines were first
place. Ed Faidlcy and Steve Pugh, Somerset; second, Greg
Cornell and Milton Snyder, Brothersvallcy; and Bryan
DiFebo and Nathan Poorbaugh, Meyersdale, third. Dennis
May and Kenneth Roses were fourth.
Ag salesmanship winners were Michael Griffith,
Brothersvallcy, first; Jesse Ocker, Rockwood, second;
and Keith Poorbaugh, Rockwood, third. Bryan Sarverand
Larry Bittinger placed fourth and fifth.
Tractor driving contest winners were Gary St. Clair,
Somerset, first; Marty Stutzman, Meyersdale, second, and
Jonathan Smiley, Brothersvalley, third.
In wildlife, the winner was Dave Creamer, Somerset
County AVTS, and Joe Swank, Somerset County AVTS,
second. Eric Fritz, Somerset County AVTS, was third.
Other winners from fourth through sixth place were Harry
Hoover, Larry Laney, and Charles Johnson.
Dairy cattle judging winner was Jason Baughman from
Brothersvalley. Darren Little, Brothersvalley, was second
and Charles Johnson, Rockwood was third. From fourth
place to sixth, winners were Valeric St. Clair, Debra Stahl,
and Jeremy Bartels.
The Meyersdale FFA Chapter won both county FFA
sports trophies. They were in basketball and volleyball.
Steve Landis, Berlin-Brothersvalley, was the winner in
having the best-kept record book in the supervised occu
pational experimental program. From production credit
Landis received $5O and a savings bond presented by Jeff
Moser.
Cash prizes were presented by the conservation district
to the conservation speaking winners named above. Pre
senter was Keith Largent.
The G. Floyd Dye Memorial rotating trophy for par
liamentary procedure was given to the Som*
erset County AVTS.
A new memorial trophy was given this year in honor of
the late Edward P. Shoemaker, who was the Vo-Ag teach
er in Somerset Shoemaker’s untimely death was earlier
this year. A poem of tribute was read by Doyle Paul, the
Vo-Ag teacher from Berlin-Brothersvalley.
Paul said the Somerset County Vo-Ag teachers decided
upon the rotating trophy in honor of Shoemaker. The
award will be presented annually to the first place county
demonstration team. The Somerset County AVTS is the
first winner.
The county FFA officers each received a plaque.
First place winners in agricultural skills competition
received their trophies through the Paul Wicks Insurance
Company.
Steve Landis, Berlin-Brothersvalley, state FFA chap
lain, gave an address to the guests.
The county FFA advisory committee members are
Doyle Paul, John Hartman, Meyersdale; Douglas Baer,
Ml. Davis; Timothy Vought, Rockwood; Cecil Lohr,
Somerset; and James Harrold and Jane Schimpf, Somerset
County AVTS.
