Onbei a farm -And a hazar Joyce B June. Month of roses, brides, graduations, strawberries and the beginning of the swimming season. June. Month of cows. Month when the dairy industry has tradi tionally invited our consuming public to join us in celebration of the production of what many of us still uphold as “nature’s most nearly perfect food.” Original intent of June Dairy Month was to encourage a little extra consumption of dairy pro ducts at the time of year when cows were turned out to pasture, chomped up volmes of fresh green grass and in their own magical, miraculous way, recycled it into seasonally-high amounts of fresh milk. Herd management improve ments and the ability to convert extra milk fairly readily into stor able cheese, butter and powdered product have made the cow’s springtime response to fresh grass more manageable in recent times, while providing a stable, steady supply of dairy foods year-round. How about a June Dairy Month salute to your cow. r------- CUP THIS VALUABLE COUPON I ■ Re< NATIONAL RECLINER Must have coupon for thla apaclal price! Or the chasing, feeding, cleaning up. CDows arc “in,” they’re “hot,” they’re marketable. Just look around. Plywood, painted cow lawn ornaments graze in numer ous non-pasture stretches of lawn. Cow potholders turn up regularly in kitchen-item sales. Cows have sprouted on everything from cot ton shorts to notepaper, blankets to beverage mugs, weather vanes to wind chimes. Cows seem to represent a sort of lifestyle, a slower pace, a wholesomeness, a tie with nature too-fast slipping away from the computerized, digital, technologically-advanced civili zation of this late-20th Century. Cows are a symbol of roots, of family, of heritage, of tradition. All that said, we’re prepared to offer our own June Dairy Month cow marketing specials, for the discriminating country-look shop- JUICE EXTRACTOR Rag.
