County Fair will be held
on Saturday, May 15,
from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at
the new facility located
on Western Road just
off of Rt. 202 in West
Chester.
In celebration of this,
the Chester County
Conservation District
will be making free
water testing kits avail
able at the district office
or booth.
Obtained through a
grant from the Pennsyl
vania Chesapeake Bay
Education Office, these
kits are designed to be a
screening tool to detect
nitrate pollution in
water supplies. Water
supplies testing positive
for nitrate should be
retested by a certified
laboratory.
Nitrates can enter the
water supplies through
many different routes,
one of them being
through the application
of fertilizer or manure to
eroding cropland. The
National Association of
Conservation Districts
recently sponsored Soil
and Water Stewardship
Week with the theme of
“Hands of Healing.”
In keeping with this,
the Chester County
Conservation District,
through the Pennsylva
nia Chesapeake Bay
Program, offers techni
cal and financial assis
tance to farmers in the
Chesapeake Bay
watershed interested in
“healing” the hurts of
