Arbor Day
For calendar makers and tree enthusiasts, Arbor Day causes
problems because all states do not celebrate on the same
day While most states observe Arbor Day m April, not all
designate the same day, and some celebrate in March To end
this confusion and promote the importance of trees, a coali
tion of sponsors has proposed a National Arbor Day on the
last Friday in April, a date now observed by more than half
the states Congress authorued such a day in 1991, but with
out continuing authority, so a permanent day is still being
sought For more information, contact the
Committee lor National Arbor Day,

water stains from leather boots and shoes, then polish.

American Forests (formerly
known as the American
Forestry Association) says
there arc at least 1 (X) million
locations right in our towns
and cities suitable for trees
(Maybe even around your
house’) Planting those 100
million trees could reduce
this country's carbon dioxide
emissions by 18 million tons a
year, saving American con
sumers S 4 billion annually l
