Scientist Named COLLEGE PARK, Md. Dr. Thomas J. Sexton will become acting director of the Maryland Agricultural Experiment Station (MAES) for a six-month term effective April 19, according to Dr. Raymond J. Miller, president of the Maryland Institute for Agri culture and Natural Resources (MIANR). “I am extremely pleased that Tom has agreed to serve as acting MAES director,” said Miller. “He is a distinguished avian scientist and administrator whose expertise will benefit MAES and its many efforts on behalf of Maryland agriculture and natural resources.” Sexton, SO, replaces Interim MAES Director Dr. Bryan H. A native of Mount Holly, N.J., he received his master’s degree in animal science from the Universi ty of New Hampshire. Sexton began his career at BARC in 1971 as a research phys iologist in the Animal Science Institute’s Avian Physiology Laboratory and became research leader of the laboratory in 1978. He has been director of the Ani mal Science Institute the largest animal research location maintained by USDA’s Agricul tural Research Service (ARS) since 1988. Set to be held at the Rochester Convention Center, Rochester, N.Y., from June 27 through June 30, the highlights inlcude an excursion to Niagara Falls, farm tours for early arrivals, a chuck wagon chicken barbecue, and a nation sale, according to a news release this week from the Holstein Association. Two farm tours are set to start early Sunday, June 27.
