lis, county agricultural agent in
Burlington County, recently
received the Pesticide Association
of New Jersey’s Distinguished
Service Award. Samulis was rec
ognized for his outstanding ser
vice in pesticide education.
Samulis has been county agri
cultural agent since 1976. He was
graduated from Delaware Valley
College with a bachelor’s in horti
culture and received a master's in
pomology from Cornell
University.
During the last 15 years, Samu
lis has received more than 25
awards for program accomplish
ments in many areas, including
farm safety, farm worker training,
and cranberry and sweet corn
research. In 1989, he received the
Distinguished Service Award
from the National Association of
County Agricultural Agents.

teachers education exhibit which
was viewed by thousands of
teachers at the New Jersey Teach
ers Convention.
He has lectured on pesticide
topics to audiences ranging from
the New Jersey Science Teachers
Association to farm workers. In
1991, Samulis was the first to
organize pesticide training prog
rams for the farm worker com
munity in New Jersey. As a result,
more than 200 farm workers were
trained in both English and

in electrical safety and the preven
tion of back injury. Ray was a
speaker on farm safety issues at
the New Jersey Farm Bureau
annual meeting in 1991 and 1992.
Samulis has served the Pesti
cide Association of New Jersey as
president, vice president, director
of public relations, and a director
since 1976. Through his efforts,
the first farming coloring book
was designed to teach young
children modem farming practices
and was distributed to more than
3,000 New Jersey school children,

Cameron and Potter counties.
Bower is a 1989 graduate of Ly
coming College and passed his
CPA exam in May 1992. He was
formerly employed by Parcnte
Randolph Orlando Carey &
Assoc., CPA’s for the past three
years. Bower is very familiar with
agriculture and gained experience
working as a laborer on various
farms over a nine-year period.
Bower currently resides in Allen
wood with his wife and three chil
dren.
