Peterson Scholar ships in the amount of $750 are available to Jersey youth who have completed at least one year of college. “Vic” Peterson has been called the “dean of dairy breed representatives” for his 25 years of service as an AJCC area representative. One $750 Paul Jackson Memor ial Scholarship is awarded annual ly to a youth who has completed at least one year of college. Mr. Jackson was a long-time Jersey breeder, showman, and herdsman who was devoted to encouraging junior interest in Jerseys. Jersey juniors who are graduat ing from high school and have been accepted by a college or uni versity are eligible to compete for two William A. Russel scholar ships. Nisbct Memorial Scholarships are awarded annually to participants in the National Jersey Youth Achievement Contest. Nisbet joined the AJCC staff in 1941 as an extension director. He served as executive secretary for the Club from 1943 to 1947. There is a $l,OOO Stanley K. Banscn scholarship to be awarded to students working on an advanced degree (masters or doc torate) in dairy or animal science, dairy manufacturing, or agricul tural business. The Bansen scho larships, THe American Jersey Cattle Club administers the ABS/ Morris B. Ewing Essay Conteset sponsored by American Breeders Service. The contest winner will be awarded a $5OO scholarship. Con test entries should focus on the question, “What can the purebred Jersey breeder do to meet the needs of the dairy producer in the year 2000?” In order to be eligible for the contest, applicants must be between 16 and 22 years of age on Jan. 1 of the contest year. Essays should not exceed 1,000 words and will be judged on accuracy of information, creativity, and gram matical correctness. Jersey scholarships are avail able to youth who own at least one registered Jersey and who arc accepted or enrolled in college. Selection is based on financial need and scholastic achievement, as well as Jersey and related activities. The deadline for applying for a 1993 scholarship is July 1.
