Berks Executive Board
On March 1 20 members and
three guests attended the Berks
County Farm Women executive
board meeting held in the agricul
ture building. Members answered
the roll call question, “Where did
you go on your first dale with your
husband to be?”
President Fem Phillipy opened
the meeting, followed with devo
tions by Joanne Stockholm of
Group #lO, reading Psalm 100,
also a poem “Morning Glory” and
The Lords Prayer and flag salute.
Janet Schlegel reported she has
accepted a position on the agricul
ture committee with Tim Holden.
She reminded members that food
items for The Greater Berks Food
Bank shall be given to group pres
idents for delivery.
Berks Heim Bingo on April 8 at
the main building: each group
furnishing an angel food cake. On
April 21, at 6 p.m. will be the
Berks Heim Volunteer service
banquet at the agriculture build
ing. Berks County Farm Women
are donating the 24 centerpieces.
President Phillipy, a member of
the volunteer board, reported 12
dozen robes had been purchased
and some keyboards last year. The
Board is considering buying tables
and room dividers for the dining
rooms to help make the Heim
atmosphere more “Homey.”
President Phillipy reported
members had a 100% participa
tion in both caring and sharing and
safety programs; receiving certifi
cates at the state convention, also
a certificate for an increase in
membership.
Belly Salta/ahn gave a report
on the county convention prog-
rcss, which will be held at the
agriculture center this year with a
ham and stuffed chicken breast
dinner. The quilt for the county
project is waiting to be quilled.

The next executive board meet
ing is May 3, at 8 p.m. at the agri
culture building.

The Lancaster County Society
of Farm Women No. 1 met for
their March meeting in the home
of Betty Sheaffer with Jean New
comer as co-hostess.
President Fay Carman presided.
Meeting opened by members
singing two songs led by Martha
Jane Brubaker and devotions by
Dorothy Rutbell.
Sixteen members responded to
roll call by naming their favorite
dessert.
Viola Wolf introduced guest
speaker, Doris Thomas, from the
Lancaster Extension Service. The
program was titled “Eating
HEART-ily” and the speaker fo
cused her remarks on this theme.
She emphasized the importance of
reducing fats in one’s diet and of
fered some very valuable tips on
how to do so.
Two delegates, Julia Zahn and
Viola Wolf, reported on the State
Farm Women’s Convention. Joan
Hershey was the speaker for this
year. The state would like a new
banner and it was suggested that
one of our members, Hazel Ulrich,
help with this project. President
Fay Carman announced that the
sale of the State Farm Women’s
cook book amounted to $27,000.

We Customer Satisfaction Personally
Women’s project for this year will
be an elevator for the Farm &
Home building in Lancaster.
The next meeting for Society
No. 1 will be held on April 3 at
1:15 p.m. at Brethren Village with
Rachel Bollinger as hostess and
Harriet Fasnacht, Dorothy Hol
linger and Ruth Rutbell as co-hos
tesses. Members of Society No. 35
will be the guests for this meeting.
The Society’s Mother and
Daughter Banquet will be held on
April 30 in the Brunnerville Fire
Hall. On March 26th, members
will meet for breakfast at the Birch
Knoll Restaurant.
Members of Society No. 1 will
be sewing at Lancaster General’s
Hospital on April 19, from 8 a.m.
to 2 p.m. Volunteers are Ruth
Huber, Viola Wolf, Betty Sheaf
fer, and Fay Carman.
Society No. 18 will be enter
taining Society No. 1 on April 17
at 12:30 in the Trinity United
Church of Christ on 2340 E. State
St., East Petersburg.
Meeting adjourned with a read
ing by President Carman, entitled
“The Great Adventure,” and
members singing the Society
song, “Brighten the Comer Where
You Are.”

On March 4, Lancaster Farm
Women #2O met at the home of
Vera Herr with Jean Ressel as co
hostess. There were 19 in atten
dance who arrived early to sew
bed pads and there were approxi
mately 300 made. At noon time a
very delicious covered dish dinner
was enjoyed. Following the dinner
Jean Ressel, vice president, pre
sided at the business meeting in
the absence of the president. For
the devotions, Vera read the 103rd
Psalm followed by praying the
Lord’s Prayer. In answer to the
roll call each person was to wear
something green or be fined 250.
A favorable report was given
for serving the A. L. Herr Com
pany luncheon. Reports were
given by the delegates who attend
ed the State Farm Women Con
vention in Harrisburg in January.
The three charities chosen to take
to the County meeting were the
Red Cross, Hospice, and repairing
the Farm Home kitchen. The cook
books have all been sold and the
Sunshine Committee reported 4
cards and 1 bouquet sent.
The meeting closed with
“Brighten the Comer” and the
April meeting will be held in the
Memorial United Methodist
Church where we will entertain
Societies #3, 15 and the County
officers.
