E2-Lancaster Farming, Saturday, March 20 1993 COLUMBUS, Ohio The Ohio Purebred Dairy Cattle Association (T’DCA) will sponsor the sixth annual Spring Dairy Spectacular, Spril 15-17, at the Ohio Slate Fair grounds in Columbus. The Spectacular will feature four breed shows and sales, including the Ohio Holstein Spring Show, the National Ayrshire Spring Show, the Ohio Jersey Show, and the Ohio Brown Swiss Show; a judging conference; the state 4-H and FFA judging contests; and activities for all dairy farm family members. The show is open to dairy breeders from across the United States and Canada. The 1992 Dairy Spectacular attracted close to 700 head of cattle from 10 states and two Can dian provinces. George Barlass from Janesville, Wisconsin will judge the Ayrshire and Jersey shows, and Seminole, Oklahoma judge, Bobby Griggs, will preside over the Holstein and Brown Swiss shows. The deadline for the $25 per head entry fee for all livestock entries is April 9. Entries after April 9 will cost $lOO per head. Trade Show and Judging Conference Also Featured The annual Dairy Spectacular trade show will include more than 50 commercial exhi bitors representing dairy industry suppliers, agribusiness firms and educational prog rams. Space is still available for commercial and educational exhibits, and booth reservations will be accepted through April 10 at a cost of $275 per booth. The PDCA Judging Conference will lake place Thursday, April 15 at noon. Individu als who successfully complete the conference will be approved to judge cattle at Ohio s county fairs Youth Programs Youth will be an important focus of many of the Dairy Spectacular activities. Each of the four breeds will recognize junior winners in the individual classes. In addition The Buckeye Dairy Club of the Ohio Stale University will host the annu al Buckeye Classic Sale. Friday, April 16 at 7:30 p.m. in Davey Arena. According to club advisor Pete Spike, the members of the Buckeye Dairy club coor dinate all of the work for the sale including selections, cataloging, advertising, barn crew, clipping, leading and clerking. Last year more than 400 students, ages 9-19, competed in the annual 4-H and FFA judging contests to compare their skills at placing cattle and review dairy farm manage ment practices.
