Grassland FFA Officers Plan
For Second Semester
The weekend of January 16 was
an important one for the officer
team of the Grassland FFA Chap
ter. Planning for the upcoming
semester during a weekend excur
sion to the mountains was the
main goal of the 21 members.
Under the instruction of advi
sors Cliff Day and Bob Lauffer,
the officers discussed the activi
ties and projects to be accom
plished by the 12 chapter
committees.
Some of the events that were
discussed included the upcoming
Donkey Basketball Game to be
held on March 26.
The annual FFA parent and
member banquet was also among
the topics discussed during the
retreat. On March 12, all current
FFA members, their parents, and
recent alumni are invited to Yod
er’s restaurant for a banquet and
presentation of awards.
The members talked about the
responsibilities of each of the 12
committees and planned the activ
ities of each for the rest of the
year.
Throughout the weekend, there
was also time for some recreation
and a chance for the officers to get
to know each other to work better
together.

HARRISBURG (Dauphin Co.)
Know of a neighborhood
restaurant that serves the juiciest
steaks around? How about a local
gathering place that fixes up meat
loaf or pot roast just like mom
used to make? Then the PA Beef
Council wants to hear from you!
The PA Beef Council
announces their annual “Beef
Backer” Award Program to honor
those restaurants who actively
support and promote beef on their
menus. Sponsored by the PA Beef
Council in conjunction with the
Beef Industry Council, the Beef
Backer program is designed to
show appreciation to those opera
tors in PA who are doing exciting
and innovative things with beef.

□ The shelter “is over the
hump” now, said board member
Drumm, with five or six months’
worth of funding now in the bank.
The need for the service will not
abate, though, and the board is in
the process of trying to set up a
steady income for Clare House. In
The Best?
“We're looking for recommen
dations as to which restaurants
deserve to run for this top honor,”
says Kelley Shearer, retail and
foodservice coordinator of the
Pennsylvania Beef Council. “No
restaurant is too big or too small.
All we ask is that they are a loyal
supporter of bed'—both on and
off the menu.”
Restaurants are judged on how
they incorporate beef into current
menu trends, innovative prepara
tion methods and beef dominance
on the menu. If you have a special
restaurant in mind, contact Kelley
Shearer with your recommenda
tion at The Pennsylvania Beef
Council, 4714 Orchard Street,
Harrisburg, PA 17109 or call

‘Patches’
addition, several fund raisers are
planned for just before Easter.
The results of Kerra’s inspira
tion, Drumm said, have been far
reaching. “They say you can’t
‘out-give’ God, and that’s the
truth.”
□ Kerra’s enjoying the com
pany of Patches, now a good bit
larger than during farm show sea
son. He lives next door, and Keira
visits several times a day to feed
and care for him. He, in turn, “fol
lows her around,” Kendy said.
He’s also become a celebrity of
sorts he worked over Christ
mas, in a local church Nativity
scene.
No doubt, he played that role
with the same flair that he gave to
his show ring performance last
year at the Manheim Fair.
Donations to Clare House are
the sole source of income for the
shelter. Anyone wishing to help the
effort can send a donation to Clare
House, P.O. Box 104, East Peters
burg. 17520.
