THAT'S RIGHT, it will be
a thousand days and a
thousand nights from the day
you breed Old Bess until her heifer
is in production. That's a long time and
a lot of hard work. Then to your dismay
you discover you have a complete dud. What
went wrong? The day Old Bess was in heat you
were anxious to get to baling hay. So you kicked her
out with the bull you had used all winter to breed the
heifers. You saved some time and lost a lot of money. You
can avoid those hasty and costly decisions in the future by
enrolling your herd in the Genetic Management Service Program.
At your convenience a trained evaluator will go over each cow in
your herd and determine her strong and weak points. With the aid of a
computer which can sort through thousands of bits of information rapidly a
recommendation will be made as to the best bull to be used on each cow.
Ask your ABS Representative about this planned breeding program now.

LEBANON (Leba
non Co.) The Leba
non County Agricultur
al Land Preservation
Board has approximate
ly $590,000 available to
purchase conservation
easements on qualified
county farms.
Roughly 13 percent
of these funds have been
appropriated by the
Lebanon County Com
missioners while the
remainder comes from
the Commonwealth of
Pennsylvania.
Interested landow
ners should make an
appointment with Char
les Wertz at the Leba
non County Conserva
tion District (272-3377)
to learn further details of
the application process.
Time is of the essence
as funds not utilized by
Lebanon County land
owners by the end of
1993 will be reallocated
to those counties spend
ing their shares.
Round one of the
county’s program closes
on April 30, at which
time it is likely the coun
ty board will make
offers to do appraisals
for qualifying
landowners.
Potential applicants
can also apply to the
program after April 30
in either of two remain
ing enrollment rounds.
To dale, four Leba
non County farms total
ing approximately 430
acres have been pre
served. Two more farms
totaling about 228 acres
are likely to be pre
served pending their
approval by the state.
Candidates must be in
an approved Agricultur
al Security Area in their
municipality and meet
several other criteria to
qualify for the program.
