Farmers’ (Continued from Pago E 2) • Outstanding Poultry Award • Floyd W. High. Floyd and his wife, Jane, live at 1480 Diamond Slation Rd. Ephrata. Last year, with six different flocks, he sold 283,069 broilers, which amounted to 1.350.200 pounds of meat. On a six-flock average. High placed 18 out of 97 growers on production cost per pound. High was a pioneer in disposing of dead poultry by composting. This method of dis posing of dead chickens was fea tured in Lancaster Farming. He also gave a lecture on this subject to the Young Farmer group and to other groups around the state. • Outstanding Hog Producer- James D. Hess. When Hess was plan ning his hog operation, he had to educate neighbors and township officials that his operation would be safe to the environment. He farms com, soybeans, barley, and a few acres of alfalfa. Corn Awards • Grain - Clark R. Stauffer. Clark Stauffer won first place with 193.22 bushels per acre. The varie ty was Pioneer 3241. He had a total of 75 acres of com. • Daryl L. Martion was second with 190.56 bushels per acre. The variety was Pioneer 3293. He farms 600 acres of com. • Corn Silage - Tom Zartman had 23.5 ton per acre, 11,291 total digestable nutrients per acre. The variety was Dekalb 646. Leininger. Leininger has served the chapter in the past as president and secretary. He also represented the chapter at many National Young Farmer Institute!, and served various times as dele gate at State Young Farmer con ventions. On the state level, he was a regional outstanding young far mer. When the 1981 National Young Farmer Convention was held in Lancaster, he served as the finance chairman. When Leinin ger’s new house was completed, he hosted our chapter’s monthly meeting. Leininger and his wife live at 1080 West Rt. 897, Reinholds. ■ Outstanding Produce Pro duction Award • Clark R. Clark’s vegetable pro duction consists of tomatoes, sweet com, canteloupes, waterme lons, peppers, cucumbers, zuc chini, pumpkins, and Indian com. They market their produce at a stand along Stevens Road and also supply several grocery stores. Their surplus goes to the Leola Produce Market. * Community Service Award - Warren F. Bollinger. Warren and his wife, Jean, live at 601 S. Fair view Rd. Lititz. Ephrata Young Farmer’s organization remembers Bollinger as the chapter’s first president, which was 25 years ago. Now a retired fanner, Bollinger gave many hours of his lime for the community. During the Ephrata Fair week, he works hard with the other committee members at the young farmer refreshment stand. He is also active in his church, Middlecreek Church of the Brc Imported Lancaster Farming, Saturday, February 20,1993-E3 thren, where he serves as the head deacon. Dairy Awards • Top Herd In Milk, Fat and Protein - Nevin S. Horning. Homing’s herd of cows had an average of 23,547 pounds of milk, 707 pounds of protein, and 858 pounds of butterfat. This herd also had the highest increase in butter fat, with 95 pounds last year. The herd consists of SO cows and 40 replacement heifers. To get this outstanding production, he feeds a TMR feed. He is assisted in this operation with the help of his wife, Denise. They are the parents of one daughter. • Second Herd in Milk, Fat and Protein - Robert D. Fox. Fox’s herd of cows had an average of 22,761 pounds of milk, 697 pounds of protein, and 834 pounds of butterfat. The herd consists of 60 cows and 40 replacement heif ers. They also feed a TMR feed.
