One Good Turn
The story of Scouting m America actually starts in England
in 1909, when an anonymous British Boy Scout did a Good
Turn for an American. William D. Boyce was lost in a
dense fog in London when the boy offered assistance, guided
Mr Boyce to his destination, and then refused a tip for his
efforts, explaining that he was a Scout. On finishing his
errand, Boyce asked the boy to take him to the British
Scouting office, where he met Lord Robert Baden-Powell,
the founder of Scouting. Boyce was impressed by what he
learned m England and resolved to bring Scouting home to
America On February 8, 1910, Boyce and three other men
founded the Boy Scouts of America, but it really all started
with one boy doing one Good Turn.
