Co.) The Pennsylvania Dairy
Promotion Program held a fifth
annual meeting for dairy produc
ers, at the Atherton Hilton Hotel,
in State College, on Tuesday.
The meeting focused on the
theme “Meeting the Challenge”
and included discussions about the
challenging issues faced by prom
oters during the past year. Two
outstanding dairy promoters were
also recognized at the meeting.
Karl Kroeck, PDPP Board
chairman, began the meeting by
presenting his thoughts about the
dairy promotion situation. He
explained that the Board of Direc
tors had worked during the past
year to create effective promo
tions for dairy farmers.
‘The bottom line is that our
cooperative efforts are designed
with one intention.” said Krocck.
"We want to sell mote dairy pro
ducts to improve the economic
future of our dairy farmers.”
The meeting included the fea
tured presentation by Lanny Frat
tare, Pittsburgh Pirate broadcaster.

Shows Promotion Progress, Awards Promoters
Frattare thanked Pennsylvania
Dairy for their support of the
National League East champion
Pirates. He recalled an experience
that he had at the age of nine,
when he spent a weekend working
on his uncle’s dairy farm, in
upstate New York. He said that he
has never worked as hard in his
life and appreciates the hard work
and effort of Pennsylvania dairy
farmers.
“Following this experience I
decided that I wanted to become a
baseball announcer,” Frattare
said. “I feel blessed that I have
been able to pursue this career
with many teams, most important
ly the Pirates.”
Two outstanding local dairy -
promoters received recognition at.
the meeting. For three years,’Pen
nsylvania Dairy has recognized,
several dairy promoters for their
efforts.
Cyndy Cass, from Wattsburg.
Erie County was selected as the
1992 “Promoter of the Year.”

Cass has been an active mem
ber of the Erie County Dairy Prin
cess and Promotion Committee
for several years. She has been
credited with creating several new
promotions in _ the county as well
as die Pennsylvania Dairy Prin
cess Cookbook. Lockhart was rec
ognized for his many years of ser
vice to the Indiana County Dairy
Promotion Committee.
The meeting concluded with a
panel presentation examining
Pennsylvania Dairy programming
over the past year. The panel
review included advertising prog- 1
rams, nutrition education activi
ties, retail marketing, and public
relations events. The panel
focused on the challenges faced'
during the year and the Pennsylva
nia Dairy’s response to these
demands.
Following the meeting prog
ram, PDPP board members and
guests toured the Hanover Brands
food plant, in Centre Hall.
