822-Lancaster Farming, Saturday, January 23, 1993 Progressive Clovers 4-H Club President Mary Ellen Ser aydlan congratulated club leader Mrs. Sylvia Miller for 25 years of service to the 4-H program (1968-1993). She starts her 25th year this month. Thanks to Sylvia for the many hours of hard work and dedication, the club today boasts 49 members. The club members gave her a jacket and handmade card to start out the new year. MERCER (Mercer Co.) Mercer County 4-H youth danced into a blue ribbon placing at the 77th Pennsylva nia State Farm Show Folk Dance Festival and contest at Harrisburg. The 10 Mercer County 4-H youth square danced to folk songs as they were judged on uniformity, rhythm, appearance, and response to the calls. ‘The youth have been practicing for the contest since early December,” says Beth Lair, Mercer County 4-H Agent and Team Coach. “In addition to the fun they have dancing, they leant about teamwork and the different musical cultures.” The Mercer County 4-H Square Dance team will per form for various audiences throughout the year with hopes of having two teams represent Mercer County 4-H at the 1994 State Farm Show. Team members include Chad Glunt, Craig Glunt, Chris Wright, Jason Tobash, Samantha Reis, Melissa Holler, Jackie Reis, Christine Calvert, Mandy McLaugh lin, Kamis Courtney, and coach Beth Lair. Tractor Safety Course Bucks County 4-H is offering a course on tractor safety to youth age 14 to 16 years of age. Whether the youth plans to work on their parents* farm, a neighbor’s farm, or work for landscaper, this course may be an essential learning experience. The course will be held in the Doylestown area. The course involves attending evening classes and then pass ing a tractor driving test to finish the course. Upon successful completion of the course, students become certified to perform certain tasks on the farm that they would otherwise be prohibited from doing under child labor and Pennsylvania laws. The law states that youth in the 14 to 16 age group must complete a tractor safety course before being allowed to drive a tractor. Preregistration is required. Evening classes will begin on Febru ary 22. Sewing Bugs 4-H The Sewing Bugs 4-H Club met recently at the home of leader Mrs. Marilyn Rebogen. Tliree show and tells were presented. Megan Class showed how to cross-stitch and then showed us her col lection of pigs. Jenna Class taught us how to make chocolate covered animal crackers. Laura Ebersole showed the travel kit she made last year. The club worked on cooking and sewing projects. At the December 5 meeting, Nicole Rebogen showed things in a sewing box. Melissa and Jessica Anderson demonstrated how to make Christmas decorations by decorating empty spools. The members discussed enter ing projects in the Farm Show. At the January 2 meeting, Sara Cartwright did a show and tell about good snacks and once in a* while snacks. Marie Cartwright explained how to create a weekly spending plan. Members made microwave food treats of chunky cheese soup and microwave hot dogs. Projects were prepared to take to the Farm Show. The next meeting will be held on February 6.
