The reserve grand champion capon was exhibited by John Senft, 14, son of Terry and Susan Senft of Johnstown. His birds were purchased by Nino’s Take Home Italian Specialties of Johns town for $286. Each of the club’s exhibitors was required to show two pro cessed capons at the roundup. Herb Jordan, retired poultry spe cialist from Penn State University, was the judge for the event, held at Central Cambria High School. The pre-auction dinner was attended by 80 people which, according to Jerry McCammon of the extension office, is up a bit from last year. The sale average was $B.OB per pound, $6.80 without champions. Laurel Bank and the Ebcnsburg Rotary Club donated their pur chased capons to the St. Vincent DePaul Society Food Bank. Agway Inc. gave their capon back to the Capon Club, which was resold to benefit Capon Club activities. It was purchased by Kentucky Fried Chicken. Jr, 3 Tina Henry 4-H Puppy Club The Lebanon 4-H Extra Special Puppy Club has been involved in fun-filled events. The members and their pups were in the Southeast Pennsylvania Small Animal show at the Reading Fairgrounds and all received blue ribbons. The club sent two teams to the Seeing Eye Puppy Bowl, where the members did well in competition. Halloween found the pups, members, and families marching in the Schaefferstown Halloween parade. Do you know author Bill Irwin? He is the blind man who with his Seeing Eye dog Orient walked the entire 2,100 miles of the Appalachian Trail. It was an interest ing event when all of the Pennsylvania and Delaware Seeing Eye clubs met at the Berks County Ag Center to hear Irwin talk about reasons for walking the trail, his experience with his first bear in Pennsylvania, the -20 F degree fahrenheit temperatures in Maine and many other events. Many people purchased his book, “Blind Courage.” Children from tl\e age of nine to adults are invited to join the 4-H Seeing Eye Puppy Club and raise a German Travis Green Adams County 4-H’er Recognized At a recent competition at Penn State, Travis Green of Gettysburg was selected as the leading 4-H member in Pennsylvania in the Forestry National 4-H Awards program. Travis is the son of Robert and Phyllis Green and is a member of the Barlow-Mt. Joy 4-H Club. In recognition of this accom plishment, Travis attended the five-day National 4-H Congress as a guest of International Paper Co. Foundation. 4-H Congress, attended by more than 1,500 4-H members from across the country, is filled with recognition events and education tours and programs. Travis became a 4-H member more than nine years ago. This spring, Travis was selected to rep resent Adams County in state competition.
