Progeny Dominate All American Sale DEFOREST, Wis. Progeny of 29 J 2875 LES TER and 29 J 2877 SKY LINE captivated the bid ders’ attention at the 1992 All American Jersey Sale, held recently in Louisville, Ky. Topping the sale at a price of $9,800 was Sweet Grass 2875 Gurit-ET, a yearling daughter of 29 J2B7S LESTER, bred by Clifton and Laura Booth of Buhl, Idaho. Gurit is a maternal sister to the breed’s highest PIT cow. Sweet Grass Sooner Gilda. Their dam. Sweet Grass Brass Gulka, is the breed’s fourth highest PTI cow and a daughter of 29 J 2793 TOP BRASS. Gurit carries two A.I. contracts and sold to the Lutz Syndicate of Mocksville, N.C. The second high selling female was Lesters Althea Altop, a 4-month-old 29 J 2875 LESTER daughter that brought $7,400 to Chaney Farms of Bowling Green, Ky. Her dam is Altheas Pride 031, an outstanding Sooner daughter with seven mater nal brothers in A.I. Altop was purchased by Lynn and Roy Lee of Smyrna, Tenn. The top selling male was Forest Glen Ben chmark, a son of 29 J 2875 LESTER from Forest Glen Sooner Gemini. BENCHMARK was bred by Stanley and Dora Bansen of Dayton, Oregon, and was purchased for the price of $48,000 by the Ben chmark Syndicate and American Breeders Service. Three other bulls sold in the sale, all sired by ABS bulls. They were progeny of 29 J 2875 LESTER and 29 J 2877 SKY LINE. 29 J 2875 LESTER had an extremely powerful influence on the success of the 1992 All American Sale. With six daughters selling, his progeny aver aged more than $5,000 - more than $1,200 over any other sire. 29 J 2877 SKY LINE sired the second highest averaging group of Jersey heifers in the sale at $3,308. In total, 18 ABS-sired animals sold in the 1992 sale, averaging more than $8,900. This average is more than $5,700 greater than any other A.I. unit represented through the sires of the consignments. With ABS’ leadership in the Jersey breed, this com petitive edge is available to Jersey breeders around the world. “Following the July 1992 sire summary, ABS is positioned with the best Jersey sire lineup avail able,” said Dave Thorbahn, ABS manager of dairy sire selection. “With the best sons of Duncan, Yank ee. TOP BRASS, and ROYAL, and four of the five bulls in the breed over +2OOO pounds PTA milk, ABS is the reliably ahead source of Jersey genetics.” According to Michael Riggs, 1992 sale chairman, the All American Sale sets the standard of excel lence for the future of the Jersey breed. The chal lenge met by the All American Sale committee was to select for the standard of excellence that would inspire all Jersey enthusiasts. Buildings By (717) 354-4740
