MARY: Compared to last week: Steer and
heifer calves firm to $2 00 higher. Year
lings steady to $ 1 00 higher Demand good
with active trade on all classes Bulk supp
ly calves. Good moisture received, and in
forecast, along with several sunny days
with temperatures in mid 60's has given
needed boost to much of the states wheal
pastures Calf demand has responded
accordingly. Compared to last year at this
time calf prices are about steady; compared
to same week in 1990 calf prices are
$B.OO-$lO.OO lower. Cattle offerings aver
age to attractive m quality. Thin weaned
calves comprised near 60% of calf supply
versus 35% last week. Weigh condition of
cattle average. Slaughter cows steady to
$l.OO lower, decline on fat cows. Demand
from packers fair. Very good demand for
feeder, Stocker, and replacement cows;
broad base of country buyers purchased
large percent of total cow numbers.
Demand declining for bred heifers over
last quarter and year ago. Supply of bred
heifers has become plentiful about the
country. Receipts this week 12,225; last
week 11,885; last year 9,374. Supply con
sisted of 38% yearlings and calves over
600 lbs ; 55% calves; 7% cows and bulls.
