STATE COLLEGE (Centre
Co.) The 1992 Nittany Lion
Fall Classic Holstein sale held last
Saturday netted $123,347 on 67
lots for an average of $1,841.
According to sales chairman
David Lentz, it was a good sale
with an estimated 300 people
attending. The sale is held in coop
eration with the Pennsylvania
Holstein Association to raise funds
for the Penn State University Dairy
Science Club.
Lentz said the 1992 Fall Classic
was one of the highest grossing
ever because of the quality of con
signments. He said the club-run
sale went very smoothly with
everyone involved working and

cooperating exceptionally well.
Two main fund raising events
are held annually by the club
the Fall Classic sale and a Christ
mas cheese box sale. Currently,
and up until Thanksgiving, any of
the 80 members of the club will be
taking orders for the cheese boxes,
which contain a variety of cheeses
and are design as gifts. Call Dr.

The proceeds from both fund
raisers go toward a variety of dairy
science educational programs
including the Penn State Spring
Invitational, which is a spring
dairy judging contest open to 4-H
and FFA members across the state.
Funds are also used for the
Dairy Expo, also a youth-directed

educational event which is held in
the Ag Arena in late April; and
funds also help sponsor club mem
bers on their spring educational
farm tour trips.
The top-selling lot of the sale
was consigned by Gerry Taylor, of
Delta. She sold for $3,550 to Paul
and Dee Courier, of Mill Hall.
