State Kicks Off
Farm-City Week
HARRISBURG (Dauphin Co.)
Reservations are still being
accepted by the Pennsylvania
State Farm-City Council for the
Farm-City Week Kickoff on
Thursday, Nov. 19.
‘The Pennsylvania Farm-City
Program was created in 1955 to
open the lines of communications
between our rural and urban
neighbors. We have developed a
full day’s program to celebrate
Farm-City Week this year,”
according to Dyan Yingst, council
chairperson.
‘To cany the message of rural
and urban relations across the
state, Farm-City Week kickoffs
have been held in the Philadelphia
and Pittsburgh regions. The 1992
program will be held in the Harris
burg area and presents a wonder
ful opportunity for farm and city
people to get together for the day.”
The Farm Show Complex in Harris
burg will serve as the central headquar
ters. Morning and afternoon bus tours
will depart from the south entrance of
the Farm Show Building and a lunc
heon program will be held in the
cafeteria on the second floor.
The morning bus tour includes Sus
quehanna Aquacultures in York Haven
and the Super Rite automated ware
house in Harrisburg. The afternoon bus
goes to Upper Dauphin with stops at
ALKA Farm & Advanced Scientifics,
Lynn Henninger’s Turkey Fafm and
the Upper Dauphin County Grain Stor
age Center.
For those who can’t make the full
day’s program, a variety of options are
available. Tickets will also include
admission to the Capital Region Busi
ness Fair, going on at the Farm Show
Complex the same day from 11 a.m. to
7 p.m.
7:45 a.m.— Coffee & Donuts -
Farm Show Complex, Maclay Street
Lobby, Harrisburg.
8 a.m.— Depart for Susquehanna
Aquacultures, Inc. in York Haven.
8:45 a.m.—Tour the facilities of"the
Northeast’s leading producer of hybrid
striped bass. This facility is leased
from PP&L on the Susquehanna River,
which provides a year-round supply of
warm water.
10:30 a.m.— Tour Super Rite auto
mated food distribution warehouse in
Harrisburg. This company services
grocery stores in the mid-state area.
11:30-1 pan.— Luncheon - Farm
Show Cafeteria - 2nd Floor, Farm
Show Complex. Beef tips over rice,
salad, dessert and beverage.
1:15 pan.— Bus leaves for Upper
Dauphin County.
2 p.m.— Tour ALKA Farm &
Advanced Scientifics, an innovative
sheep farm that processes livestock
products for medical laboratories.
3 pan.— Tour Lynn Henninger’s
turkey farm and the Upper Dauphin
Grain Storage Center.
4 pan.— Bus leaves for Harrisburg.
4:45 pan.— Visit the Capital Reg
ion Business Fair at the Farm Show
Complex (Show hours 11 a.m. to 7
pan.).
Persons attending may choose a var
iety of options: whole day, including
bus tours and lunch, $2O; morning bus
tour only with lunch, $l5; lunch and
afternoon bus tour only, $l5 or lunch
and business fair.
Reservations will be accepted until
two buses are filled. For more informa

LANCASTER (Lancaster Co.)
Fifty-five years ago an organi
zation called Rural Youth of Lan
caster County was formed to meet
the social, educational, and recrea
tional needs of agricultural young
people who had outgrown 4-H and
FFA clubs. On Saturday evening,
October 31, 101 forma' members
and guests gathered at Country
Table Restaurant, Mount Joy, for
a reunion and a time of
reminiscing.
Included were some of the char
ter members: Milton Brubaker,
Lidtz; Roy and Martha Jane Bru
baker. Lititz; Frank and Dorothy
Enders, Mountville; Lloyd Lefev
er. East Petersburg; Mark Hess,
Lancaster; Lloyd Ranck, Paradise;
Jake Reapsome, Lancaster; Grace
Rodman, Silver Spring; Harold
Risser, Mohrsville, Pa.; and
Martha Stoner, Lancaster.
The first meeting had been held
at the home of Grace Rodman’s
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harrison
NolL Jake Reapsome served as the
first president.
