Cumberland County Salutes 4-H Achievements BETH MILLER Cumberland Co. Correspondent HUNTSDALE (Cumberland Co.) Amy Jones and Clinton Barrick came away the big win ners from the Cumberland County 4-H Achievement Banquet. Jones of Carlisle was selected as the Outstanding 4-H Girl dur ing the event held in the Penn Township Fire Hall. Barrick of Newville was picked as the Outstanding 4-H Boy. Jones is an eight-year 4-H member who is secretary of the county 4-H Sheep Club and has participated in exchage trips. She helps at 4-H Day Camp and its expo, went to Capital Days and participated in State 4-H Days. She won an I Dare You Award and was named Outstanding Sec retary in 1991. She was named Outstanding Junior 4-H Member in 1988 and Outstanding News Reporter in 1989. Barrick, a nine-year 4-H mem ber, is assistant treasurer for the county Horse Club. He is presi dent of the county Swine Club, helped at Environmental Camp as a counselor, was a 4-H ambassa dor, went to Capital Days and par ticipated in an exchange trip. He and Jones received their awards during a program that was entitled “4-H For Youth.” The awards ceremony was dedicated to Deanna Otto, a county 4-H member who was killed in an automobile accident this summer. Jones and Barrick weren’t the only 4-H members who took awards home with them. Michelle Comman of Carlisle was named the Outstanding Junior Member. She is a six-year 4-H member who belongs to the Sheep Club, is assistant secretary of the Swine Club and is county council representative for the Busy Bunch. Comman won the Outstanding News Reporter Award in 1990 and 1991. She helps at the expo, participated in county and region al Speak-Out and went to 4-H Camp. Joann Roberts won the Gladys Holtry Award. Poster Contest Awards went to Taryn Rockwell and Tanya Zelger. Derek Heine captured the 4-H Wildlife Award and the 4-H Speak-Out Night Award went to the Flying Fingers Club. The contest for the Outstanding Fair Exhibit Award ended up in a tie. The two winners were the county 4-H Dairy Club and the Flying Fingers Club. Amy Jones was picked as the Outstanding Secretary. The Out standing News Reporter award went to Steve Fisher. Mike Hensel captured the Outstanding Treasur er award. I Dare You Awards went to Diane Myers and Tony Roberts. First place in the contest for Cumberland County Club of the Year went to the 4-H Dairy Club. The Sheep Club came in second and the Flying Fingers finished in third place.
