aligned with gun control groups
such as Handgun Control Inc. I am
a great believer in gun owner rights
and fight any and all attempts to
deny honest citizens their right to
own firearms.
Several years ago I heard a simi
lar accusation. I have since been
monitoring animal-rights groups
publications and even called them
to ask in a very neutral way about
TRUCK LOADERS & DOZERS
DUMP TRUCKS & FLATBED
ROAD TRACTORS & TRAILERS
PICKUPS & CARS
their gun controls tance. The
response has always been that they
cany no opinion either way on the
subject Nor have I seen any type
of gun control propaganda in any
of their publications.
As for the question of vegeta
rianism. What’s wrong with veg
etarians? They support the fanners
in this country. The problem falls
within the belief that vegetarians
eat only tofu and bean sprouts.
This is not necessarily true. There
are several different types of veg
etarians. Most continue to eat dairy
and egg products. The people who
do not eat any type of animal pro
duct are vegantarians, and they are
a tiny minority, in a group of peo
ple who make up less than 10% of
the entire population. Also most
vegetarians buy their fruits and
vegetables from the local family
farmer. One of the main reasons
they do this is because they want to
see the family fanners survive

Editor:
I just finished reading
the October 10 issue of
Lancaster Farming.
Imagine my surprise
when I reached page
A2B and saw myself
identified as the “past
president, PFY”.
I would like to assure
you that I am still very
much the leader of our
statewide organization.
In fact. I’m not even up
for re-election until
November 1993! I
would very much appre
ciate an opportunity to
meet with you and talk
about some of the pro
jects and activities we
have going, and the
direction in which Far
mers Union is headed in
Pennsylvania. May I
buy you lunch
sometime?
While I’m writing, I
would also like to point
out that my attendance
in Lackawanna County
was by invitation of
Senator Specter, who
expressed an interest in
hearing our concerns
with major agriculture
issues. My visit was in
no way connected with
the formation of the Far
mers For Specter com
mittee. I’m a little con
cerned that the place
ment of the picture in
the article might lead
someone to believe that
I was taking part in a
partisan activity on
behalf of the Farmers
Union, which is a non
poartisan organization.
Thanks for the chance
to clarify.
Robert C. Junk, Jr.
President,
Pennsylvania Farmers
Union
Editor’s Note: Sorry
we misinterpreted the
information that was
sent to us. No lunch
needed.
