Joyce Heffner’s supreme champ
ion market lamb almost didn’t
make it to a full life, let alone a big
fair like the one at Allentown.
Heffner’s Hampshire/Suffolk
cross was named supreme champ
ion last week, but it wasn’t too
long ago Heffner was nursing him
like he was her own baby.
He was a triplet and apparently
had been rejected by his mother
when Heffner, 18, a recent gradu
ate of Fleetwood High School,
took over his care in February and
named him Shorty.
So when Heffner’s mother says
her daughter raised this lamb her
self, it’s true. And it was a devotion
typical of her 11 years as a 4-H’er,
