Fair Schedules
Denver
Fun competitions for all ages
dominate the festivities at the
Denver Community Fair. There
will be Jell-O eating and smelly
sneaker contests, outhouse races
and super peanut scrambles.
A baked goods auction and the
crowning of the fair queen will
open the week’s festivities in the
Denver Memorial Park on Main
Street in the borough.
Bingo games will be held each
evening from 6 to 10 p.m. and sen
ior citizen bingo will be held from
2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday
and Friday afemoons.
Specials for the amusement
rides will be held on Thursday’s
“Family Night” from 6 to 10 p.m.
and during a Saturday matinee
from 1 to 5 p.m.
Access to off-street parking, for
$l, is available at the park’s Pine
Street entrance and the Denver
Borough lot on Main Street.
Handicapped parking is available
upon request Exhibits for the fair
will be registered Monday from 6
to 9 p.m.

Ephrata
The granddaddy of county fairs,
the Ephrata Fair will celebrate 74
years of food, fun and games of
chance along its midway on Mam
and State streets.
Although the midway covers
several blocks, exhibits for the fair
spread out further, requiring a free
shuttle service for fairgoers to lake
in all the events.
The free shuttle bus running
from 4 to 10 p.m. on Tuesday,
Thursday and Friday will pick up
visitors at the comer of South
State and West Franklin streets to
the livestock exhibits located in
Tested and Approved for use in the post frame construction industry by engineers
at The Pennsylvania State University and Wood Mechanics Personnel.

The fair’s first contest begins
Monday at 4 p .m. with the second

caster County.

swine show; 8 p.m., pig chase.
Wednesday, Sept. 23: 10 a.m.,
dairy cattle show; 1 p.m. Cloister
FFA tractor driving contest; 3:30

lowed by junior market lamb
judging; 7 p.m., street fair parade,
(ram date is Thursday).
Thursday, Sept. 24: 1 to 6
p.m., kiddies day; 5 p.m., baby
beef show; 6:30 p.m., carcass
lamb, baby beef and hog sale (if it

The West Lampeter Communi
ty Fair will show off children’s
gardening skills with a sunflower
growing contest Thursday at 4:30
p.m. Also, a petting zoo will be
open from 6 to 8:30 p.m. each eve
ning of the fair.

winning vegetables and fruits at
an auction.

The highlight of the New Hol
land Farmers Fair is the annual
spectacle of bands parade, featur
ing more than a dozen county
bands.
The fair also features a midway
that stretches along Main Street,
Route 23. The livestock events
will be held on the grounds of the
New Holland sale bams.

As a new feature of the fair, Fri
day afternoon will be designated
as kids day with a clown and ma
gic show by the Amazing Earl at 4
p.m. on Franklin Street and a pet
ting zoO on Fulton Street.

Manheim
The fair season ends with the
Manhcim Community Farm
Show, and its biggest attraction is
the children’s barnyard, a com
bination petting zoo and educa
tional tour.
Manheim also has the county’s
only shepherds lead line contest,
where sheep owners show off
their animals and themselves as
they model tailored wool outfits in
the show ring.
The Baron Sliegel one-mile
foot race and the annual parade are
also unique attractions in Man
heim.
The farm show will be held on
the grounds and fields next to
Manheim Central High School on
Adcle Avenue. The deadline for
entries is 10 a.m. Monday.
