Bidders Open

ELIZABETHTOWN (Lancas
ter Co.) “Open your hearts and
wallets and support these kids,”
auctioneer Harry Bachman urged
the crowd gathered for the annual
livestock sale at the Elizabethtown
Fair on Thursday night.
That’s exactly what the bidders
did during the boisterous and
sometimes good-natured ribbing
that permeated the sale.
“Put your calculator away.
They’ll tell you what you owe
when you come to pay your bill,”
Bachman told a top bidder who
slowed bidding to calculate the tot
al cost.
Sale supporters paid up to SS.2S
per pound for the champion goat,
$4.20 per pound for the champion
hog, $2.75 per pound for the
champion market lamb, and $l.BO
per pound for the champion steer.
Lyndon Rciff’s grand champion
market lamb was the first to be sold
over the auction block. Lebanon
Valley National Bank purchased
the 120-pound sheep for $2.75 per
pound. His sister’s (Lisa’s)
120-pound reserve grand champ
ion followed with a close $2.60 per
pound. Dr. Richard Albright, a loc
al orlhordonist, purchased it
Ai Martin from McCracken’s Feed Mill, Manheim, paid
$5.25 per pound for the grand champion goat owned by
Amanda Grube of Lititz. Jennifer Fouse, Fair Queen, on
right.
Dr. Richard Albright of Elizabethtown paid $2.60 per
pound for Lisa Relff’s reserve grand champion lamb, which
weighed 120 pounds. Fair Queen Jennifer Fouse Is on the
Hearts, Wallets During E-town Livestock Sale
McCracken’s- Feed Mill paid
$5.25 per pound for the 90-pound
grand champion goat shown by
Amanda Grube of Lititz. Walter
Dunlap paid $2.25 per pound for
the 80-pound reserve champion
shown by Lindsey Lane. Rheems.
For $l.BO per pound, Groff’s
Meats of Elizabethtown purchased
Peter Hoffmes grand champion
steer, which weighed in at 1,245.
The reserve champion steer shown
by David Bollinger of Manheim
was purchased jointly by cattle
jockeys Robert Cinder and Frank
Fillippo.
Kevin Pfautz, Lititz, who
showed the 246-pound grand
champion hog was pleased with
the $4.20 per pound that Hatfield
Quality Meats paid.
An on-the-spot syndicate was
formed when A 1 McCauley of Am
Tran in Elizabethtown combined
forces with Sue Brown of White
Oak and Mylin Good to purchase
the 246-pound reserve grand
champion hog. It was shown by
Sara Boyd of Ephrata and sold for
$3.10 per pound.
The number of show animals
sold during the auction included 53
lambs, 7 goats, 5 steers, and 132
swine.
