While t! g is full of cows, . commerce exhibits and families who came to the state Holstein picnic to socialize and to see the new 1,600-head free-stall with a double-40 milking parlor at Evergreen Farms. Thousands Attend State Holstein Picnic SEVEN SPRINGS (Hunting don Co.) Thousands of people attended the annual state Holstein picnic at the 2,500-acre Evergreen Farms here, socializing, eating, visiting the commercial exhibits and touring the largest automated dairy facility in the state. A number of police and security people were needed to handle the flow of traffic which saw people from all over the state and else where come to see the 1,600-cow, free-stall facility with its recycling aisle-flush system, computerized cow separators and double-40 computerized milking parlor. Owned by R. Wayne Harpster, the facility was recently completed and cows moved in. Harpster said he expects to have it running at full capacity by January. The facility is one-of-a-kind in design, size, and siting. The Everg reen Farms has hosted the state picnic previously, but never have that many people attended. The picnic was combined with a gener al open house.
