    Show Judges Picked For All-American Dairy Show

Co.) Officials with the Pen
nsylvania All-American Dairy
Show, one of the largest dairy
exhibitions under roof, have
announced the names of the judges
for the different breed
competitions.
Ayrshire exhibitors participat
ing in the Eastern National Ayr
shire Show on Sept. 23, should rec
ognize judge Lowell Lindsey.
As director of sire development
with United Breeders Inc., a Cana
dian artificial insemination busi
ness, he travels extensively and
participates in numerous judging
panels.
In addition to major shows in the
U.S. and Canada, Lindsey has
traveled to many countries, includ
ing England, Japan, Spain, Scot
land. Australia and Italy.
He has served numerous times
on the All-Canadian and All-
American selection panels.
For the Brown Swiss breeders,
Richard E. Keene, of Giibertsville,
N.Y., is‘the judge for the Sept. 22
show.
Keene and his daughter Beth
own and operate Keeneland Farm,
a 400-acer dairy with a milking
herd of 90 registered Holsteins.
The RHA exceeds 21,000 pounds
of milk, 780 pounds of fat and 700
pounds of protein.
Keene is also a national director
of the Holstein Association and
officiates at national and interna
tional shows.
A graduate of Cornell Universi
ty, he has worked as a fieldman and
classifier for the Holstein
Association.
As a judge, he has reviewed all
breeds at almost all levels, includ
ing 10 national Holstein shows.

countries.
Robert Fitzsimmons, of East
Montpelier, Vt, is to be judge dur
ing the national Guernsey show set
for Sept. 23 at the state Farm Show
complex, as part of the All-
American Dairy Show.
Fitzsimmons has judged nation
al and international shows includ
ing the Western National, Michi
gan State, Southern National and
several Canadian shows. He also
judged tours in Germany, Japan,
England, Mexico and he held a
judging symposium in Italy.
In 1984, he joined Lylehaven
Holstein Farm where he works as
general manager. Before that he
was a classifier with the Hostein
Association of America.
Holstein exhibitors will have
their entries reviewed by Gary
Estes, of Ozark, Mo., on Sept. 24
during the Eastern National Hols
tein Show.
Bom and raised on a dairy farm
in southwest Missouri, he is a gra
duate of the University of Missouri
and taught vocational agriculture
for six years. He is also an auction
eer and is associated with several
auctioneering services.
He has judged all six breeds in
dairy shows around the United
States and overseas several times.
As assistant judge for the Hols
tein show, Glen Cook of Elkhart,
Ind., was selected by the Holstein
Association.
Cook and his son Tom own and
operate Bauga Valley Holsteins.
They have a registered Holstein
herd with a rolling production
average of 22,486 pounds of milk,
865 pounds of fat and 754 pounds
of protein. The BAA is 110.3.
He has bred two reserve All-
American Holsteins and has had
several other nominations.
Jersey breeders who show at the
All-American are to have their
cattle judged by Dennis Patrick of
Woodbine, Md.
The Jersey show, called the
Mid-Atlantic Regional Jersey
Show, is to be held Sept. 24.
Patrick currently farms 800
acres in Howard County, Mary
land, with his father, brother and
uncle, where they milk 200 head of
both registered Holsteins and
Ayrshires.

ness, he worked as a herdsman for
four years for Rothrock Golden
Holsteins, in Kempton.
He was a member of the 1978
Maryland Dairy Cattle Judging
Team, which went on to win the
national contest.
Since then, he has judged
numerous county, state and nation
al shows, inlcuding the Pennsylva
nia State Holstein Show, the
National Ayrshire Show and the
Maryland State Holstein Show.
James Patterson of Greenville,
Ohio, is to be the judge for the
Eastern National Milking Shor
thorn Show, as part of the All-
American Dairy Show, Sept. 22.
A graduate of Ohio State Uni
versity, Patterson’s experience
includes a 12-ycar stint with the
Holstein Association, both as a
classifier and later at the supervi
sor of classifiers.
As a judge, he has officiated
numerous national shows and has
traveled to Colombia and Italy to
judge.
He is involved in a business in
which he sells embryos and off
spring of cattle he owns in partner
ship. He also is a director on the
National Holstein board.
