Lycoming County Youth Sell Livestock

WILLIAMSPORT (Lycoming
Co.) The Lycoming County
Fair was the scene of the 13th
annual Youth Livestock Sale,
where more than 130 head of
hogs, beef cattle, and market
lambs were sold.
Although the weather was
uncomfortably cool, with misty
and rainy conditions, the crowd of
onlookers were enthusiastic and
remained throughout the long
evening.
The grand champion market
hog m the youth class was con
signed by Nathan Jarrell and was
purchased by the Country Store of
Pcnnsdale. The selling price of
this 240-pound borrow, 52.60 per
pound, was overshadowed by the
reserve grand champion, a York
Cross gilt, which brought 53.05
per pound for its weight of 248
pounds. It was owned by Tom
Spnngman, and was purchased by
Moore Farms, Orangeville.
Spnngman is a Green Valley
4-H member. Jarrell is affiliated
with the Bald Eagle Club.
Filly hogs were sold, and they
brought an average of 940 per
pound. The premier hog buyer
was Hatfield Meats, with Country
Store having the second most
purchases. Of the nine clubs
which had entered market hogs in
the sale, the Huntersville 4-H con
signed 13, and the Bottle Run
Club sold 10 of its animals.
In the market steer class, the
grand champion Angus cross, at
1,214 pounds, brought S 4 per
pound for its owner, Doug Mar
quardl. It was purchased by
Boss’s Steak and Beef. The Bottle Run Club was second in
reserve champion, sold by Becky numbers of steers consigned.
