While this year’s harvest is
abundant, the Perrys won’t reap
heavy profits.
“It doesn’t pay to sell the fruit to
a processor,” Mrs. Perry said. “One
year, we tried it, but after expenses
were paid, we ended up with less
than a cent a quart and that did not
include our labor.”
Although the Perrys hate to see
the fruit go to waste, they said, “If it
doesn’t get picked, it will rot
because there’s nothing we can do
about it. Harvesting it would cost
us money not pay us.”

Keith Eckel, president of the
Pennsylvania Fanners’ Associa
tion, said in opening remarks that
the meeting was called to assure
the University administration and
most importantly the Vet School
faculty that there is a future for the
Vet School and that the agricultural
industry places a high value on the
institution and its faculty.
“We need to be able to say with
out any equivocations that the
action we take today insure the
integrity and goals of the School of
Veterinary Medicine through a
sound economic approach,” Eckel
said.
