INTERCOURSE (Lancaster Co.) An International Horse Expo and Equine Trade Fair will be held Saturday, March 28 and Sunday, March 29 at Martins Sales Pavilion located two miles east of Intercourse, Pa. Larry L. Martin and Paul Z. Martin, Jr., owners of Martin Auc tioneers, Inc., have just celebrated 20 years of conducting auctions of horse drawn coaches, carriages, sleighs, horse-related equipment, and collectibles at their auction facilities, two miles east of Inter course and throughout the U.S. and Canada. In their quest to keep the horse industry alive and promote horse related events, the idea of an Equine Trade Fair emerged in 1991, in conjunction with a two day carriage auction and special ized all-breed driving horse and pony auction. Because of the tre mendous success the first year, the Martins are moving ahead to organize and plan another suc cessful event in 1992. The annual “Open House” at the Mary land Department of Agriculture is going to be bigger and better than ever with new things for the public to see and do on Saturday, March 21. Last year, the event drew more than 5,000 visitors. As in the past, the event will start off with the “Maryland With Pride” 10-K Run set up by the Annapolis Striders, starting at 9 a.m. Again this year will be laborat ory tours in the Department’s new wing featuring labs that do work on animal feeds, household clean ing products, fertilizers, pesticides and even a lab which checks weights down to a millionth of a <|sD SSf Lancaster Farming Saturday, March 7,1992-07 Open House Bigger , has been supplying quality feed, seed, and fertilizer to members and the public for 62 years. The modem plant facilities enable the cooperative to custom formulate, grind, and mix feeds and to cus tom blend fertilizers to meet the needs of today’s more scientific farmers. Lavoie replaces Henry A. Zajac as general manager. Zajac is retir ing after eight years with the cooperative. Better pound for accuracy. Fanning means food and there will be no shortage of cooking and food sampling demonstrations put on by many Maryland food com modity organizations ranging from apples to seafood and fish farming. There will also be a number of activities for children: a farm col oring contest, face painting, and a petting zoo stocked with fuzzy, furry, and friendly animals.
