To See If Well
Have A Drought

Keep an eye on India.
If that country is under drought
conditions in May and June this
year, the com belt and the eastern
U.S. will be rainy and cool during
the com season.
But if India is dry in May and
June, then we could see a severe
drought in 1993.

the industry and applauded poultry

ture,” Jay Irwin, county Extension
director emeritus, told the group as
he identified the eight families

Thompson presented research
on the factors of global wanning
and how warming and cooling
cycles go hand in hand with com
prices and the economy.
Thompson centered on the fac

Four generations
For four generations the Dennis
L. and Ellen Eby farm in Gap and
the Dennis Forty farm in Manheim
have raised chickens.
The Eby farm was purchased in
1903 by Martin Eby who started
with a couple of hundred chicks,
cows, steers, sheep, and pigs. Hun
dreds of chicks ran around in the
backyard until the late 1940 s when
son Menno housed 2,000 chicks on
the farm. The family grew their
own pullets, and washed and
graded the eggs that were shipped
