The show is for non-milking
animals, with classes ranging from
intermediate calf (bom from Dec.
I, 1991 to Feb. 29. 1992) to
unfresh 2-year-olds (bom before

Ag Advisory Board
HARRISBURG (Dauphin
Co.) The state House erf Rep
resentatives recently approved
legislation that would give farmers
a greater voice in drafting state
environmental regulations,
according to state Rep. Kenneth
Cole, D-Adams.
Under the legislation (H.B.
1530), which has been sent to the
Senate for consideration, an Agri
cultural Advisory Board would be
formed to make recommendations
on rules and regulations that the
state Department of Environmen
tal Resources considers.

ture and Rural Affairs Committee
and co-sponsor of the legislation.

problems farmers were having

State Ayrshire Association Plans Spring Convention

also cosigned for the sale. Those
animals are automatically entered
for the show at no extra cost.
A showmanship competition is
also scheduled with first-year,
junior division and senior division
classes.
Also scheduled is an "Anything
Goes’* auction for the association
youth fund. There is no restriction
on the number or type of items
donated for the sale. Items already
offered for sale inlcude semen,
photos, and toys.
In addition to die sale, show and
business meeting, there are to be

intended for the agricultural
community.
"Some of the rules DER issues
have a big effect on our agricultur
al community." Cole said. "Usual
ly. these rules are aimed at com
mercial businesses, but they end
up adversely affecting farmers."
Cole said the board will be com
prised of farmers and representa
tives of agricultural organizations.
"Our goal here was to provide a
means for DER to know how its
rules would affect agriculture," he
said. "The board would provide
informadon and input on regula
tions so that DER could draft the
new rules for businesses in such a
way that they do not affect
agriculture."
