Meet Huntingdon County Form
Women President Ruth Chilcote
ROCK HELL FURNACE (Hun
tingdon Co.) Since 1970, Ruth
Chilcote has been a member of
Shade Valley Farm Women #4.
Recently, Ruth was installed as
president over the four Hunting
don County societies and their 48
members.
“I like Farm Women because
it*s a way to make new friends,”
Ruth said.
She found these friends shortly
after her marriage to a dairy
farmer.
It was these friends that com
forted Ruth after she gave birth to a
still bom baby and when her hus
band of 10 years died of a brain
tumor.
After her husband’s death, Ruth
moved in with an aunt who also
died. Now Ruth lives alone. After
27 years of factory work, Ruth
retired in the early 1980 s. She is
master head of the Shirleysburg
Grange, a member of the Three
Springs Rebecca Lodge, and a
member of First Methodist
Church.
She has traveled to places such
as Nova Scotia, Hawaii, and Nash
ville. This year, she plans to vaca
tion in Missouri.
Ruth said that Farm Women
find it fulfilling to help with com
munity needs. Recently members
gave money to provide transporta
tion expenses for a boy who
needed cancer treatments.
“I would like to see more mem
bers join Farm Women,” Ruth
said. If interested in knowing more
