Winners of the Pennsylvania Master Com Growers Association 1991 Five-Acre Com Club contest will be honored at the 1992 Pen nsylvania Com Conference March 3 here at the Embers Convention Center. Awards were made for both three-year yield averages as well as for highest yields during 1991. One hundred and forty four com growers participated in the prog ram this year. In addition to awards, the prog ram provided each grower with nutrient management and crop budgeting information. Second place went to William Bissinger, Bloomsburg, with an average of 161,7 from 1989 with Pioneer 3343,1990 with Pioneer 3241, and from 1991 with Pioneer 3527. Lee Hitz of Annville took third place with an average yield of 158.3 bushels per acre in 1989 on Pion eer 3343 and in 1990-1991 with Pioneer 3241. In the three-year average class for shelled com harvested from a regular (less than three acres) sample, first place was awarded to Lloyd Zook from Oley with a yield of 185.3 bushels per acre off of 1989 yields from Pioneer 3295, 1990 from Pioneer 3180, and 1991 from Pioneer 3241.
