    Junior Dairyman Contest
HARRISBURG (Dauphin Co.)
The Junior Dairyman Contest
at the Pennsylvania All-American
Dairy show is reputed to be the
“toughest junior contest” in the
nation.
But that didn’t daunt the
Canaseraga Active Achievers of
Allegany county, N.Y. In six and a
half hard hours of judging, quizes,
feed identification, and manage
ment classes at the Farm Show
Complex here, the New Yorkers
scored 876 points to win the 4-H
team title for the second straight
year and to grab four of the first
five individual awards.
Pennsylvania youth weren’t
about to be shutout in their own
backyard. Westmoreland county
placed second in the 4-H team
contest with 799 points, and Cum
berland county third with 703
points.
In the FFA team competition,
Pennsylvania dominated with Tul
pehocken High School FFA scor
ing 609 points to take first, Lan
caster Mennonite High School
FFA finishing second with 578
points and the FFA team from
Penns Valley High School, Spring
Mills, a close third with 566

new $5OO scholarship went to Rob
Wilson of New York’s Canasera
ga Active Achievers who earned
453 points. Murel Raub, a 4-H
member from Perry county, Pa.,
won second place and $lOO with a
398 point score. 4-H members
Emily Hill, Shannon Lacy and
Bryan Wilson of the Active
Achievers took third, fourth and
fifth respectively.
“Turnout is the biggest in five
years of the Junior Dairyman Con
test,” Chairman Carl Brown said,
noting that the 87 4-H and FFA
contestants hailed from New
York, New Jersey and Pennsylva
nia. Awards this year also set a
new high of $1335, he noted.

Junior Dairyman Contest were
Pfizer’s Animal Health Division
and Church & Dwight’s Arm and
Hammer Products.
Judges included Jeff Tyson of
Church and Dwight, Dr. Fernando
Luzando, a veterinarian with Pfiz

1991-92 New Jersey State Dairy
Princess is Miss Suzanne Cadwal
lader of Salem. She is the 17 year
old daughter of Nancy & Asa Cad
wallader of Waldac Dairy Farm.
On the Waldac Farm, they milk
140 Registered Holstein Cows and
farm 500 acres of hay, com, soy
beans, and other small grains.
Suzanne has been a member of
4-H and the NJ. Holstein Associ
ation for nine years. This year she
will be the Dairy 4-H delegate to
National 4-H Club Congress in
Chicago in December.
Suzanne attends a Quaker
boarding school (George School)
in Newtown, Pa., where she is a
senior. She is a fourth generation
Cadwallader to attend George
School. She has been on the honor
roll all of her first three years of
high school and her activities
include Discipline Committee,
Varsity Field Hockey and Lacros
se, Executive Committee, Dormit
ory Prefect and Peer Leader.

Suzanne’s future plans include
attending college to study animal
and dairy science. Then she hopes
to pursue a career in agricultural
research with a focus on dairy
cattle genetics.
Waldac Farm was started in
1938 by Suzanne’s grandparents,
William and Marian Cadwallader.
It is now run by her parents and
two brothers, Jace and David, with

Suzanne will represent the New
Jersey dairy industry by promot
ing milk and dairy products at
meetings, schools, supermarkets
and many special events through
out the State.
Alternate State Princess is Jan
Eachus, the 17 year old daughter
of Milton and Mergery Eachus of
Woodstown. Jan is a senior at
Woodstown High School.
